Prioritize Cold Cases Over Cannabis

In the United States it is estimated that there are some 200k or more cold cases that have yet to be solved. That means there are many serial killers across the country that are still living in freedom, having not paid for their crimes yet.

In a variety of jurisdictions, there simply were not enough resources to be spent on investigating these crimes for years, among other reasons. This is why various efforts have been established to try and seek out extra funding for the police to solve those cases, people have even made donations to their local departments in an effort to try and get them solved.

Unfortunately, the reality is that some police departments might say that it is because of a lack of financial resources, that this was the reason they had to let a killer walk free and couldn't close the case. They didn't have enough money despite spending thousands of dollars daily on policing something peaceful like cannabis and putting individuals behind bars over a joint. The government spends millions of dollars every single day on pursuing drug war crimes and imagine if that money had been spent on those thousands of cold cases that still need to be solved, those thousands of families who are still waiting for closure and not knowing what happened to their loved one.

Different regions have received grant funding and private donations in order to pursue those cold cases and despite being sometimes 10, 20, or 30 years old, they have been successful at bringing closure and finding out who had been guilty much later on. This is why it is so vital to direct funding and investigation efforts away from things like cannabis and other drug crimes and towards investigating more cold cases and getting true threats responsible for those crimes off the streets, those that mean harm to individuals in their communities.
