Everybody is talking mostly about the merge, with the last test going well, and many trying to get some last minute loans to increase potential airdrops. ADA hard fors is also happening soon. MakedDAO and Coinbase are working on something big (we are talking billions). What else? Find out bellow:
- Bitcoin: PoolinWallet, the wallet of the one of the biggest BTC mining pools, is suspending withdrawals as it tries to minimize the hit taken when people are trying to use BTC to buy more ETH, in order to maximize future airdrops before the Merge. BTC is returning to $18K after 10 months, losing more than 70% in this period. This is a new low, after the June previous dip
- Ethereum: There is a new ETH Layer 2 called Specular, claiming stronger security and decentralized solutions than the optimistic rollups, check then, you never know when some airdrops are coming. Ethereum Name Service (ENS) surpassed Bored Apes as the most traded NFT on OpenSea, ahead the ETH Merge. Ethereum Classic (ETC) hits new all time high hashrate ahead of the Merge. AAVE is halting the ETH loans ahead the Merge. Many DEFI protocols are now replenish their treasuries getting ready for the ETH merge too, AAVE and Lido leading the way.
- Altcoins: Cardano Vasil Hard Fork upgrade is coming on Sept 22, bringing increased network capacity and lower cost transactions. KMPG, that global audit and consulting firm, predicts that crypto and blockchain tech will decline even more, as we did not hit the botton yet. Will they? Coinbased proposed to MakerDAO to deposit $1.2B in their institutional arm for a 1.5% interest rate, creating $24M in annual revenue. It seems that Google Cloud will run a validator node for Ronin and Axie Infinity.
- Blockchain games and NFTs: Splinterlands announced the launch of their next mini-collection of cards, Riftwatchers, on 27th of September, for 5$ in their SPS tokens and 1 Voucher. This is a limited collection, with a great profit potential once is completely sold (get the packs and sell them 1-2 years later). They are also working on a Tower Defence game, as rumor has it. LG Electronics are launching a NFT platform on Hedera (HBAR) blockchain, letting you buy, sell and display them on their own LG televisions. The y00ts guys, you know, Dust Labs, the ones with the Solana latest NFT craze-y, just raised $7M in funds, with 50% equity and 50% DUST token exchanged for the investors money. NBA is working with the European gaming and NFT platform Sorare, to make a game using NFT-based collectibles of NBA star players, ready for the 2022-2023 season, starting in October. Animoca Brands confirmed raising $110M as a convertible note issuance, a way of converting money into equity after reaching a 3 years maturity, but not after that date.
- Good News: NEPZA, the Nigerian government agency, wants to create a virtual free zone and a future digital hub in the middle of Dubai. India's central bank asked four Indian banks to pilot the digital rupee and test it before the public launch. Two former Revolut employees founded a web3 energy start-up called Tesseract, raising $30M in traditional equity, their startup being now valuated at $145M. GameStop announced a partnership with FTX, as they will carry FTX gift cards, with more efforts to collaborate together in the future. DBS Bank, the largest lender in Southeast Asia, partnered with The Sandbox to build new services for clients using digital avatars. Ford filed 19 trademarks for NFT trademarks, covering cars, trucks, SUVs and clothing. Russia is exploring cross-border stablecoin settlements, in order to not use dollar or euro. And UK Treasury guys want to make the country a crypto hub, a dominant global one nevertheless.
- Bad News: The official Twitter account of PwC Venezuela was compromised and the hacker posted links to fake XRP giveaways. Do not click them! Bill Murray auctioned an NFT called ''Beer with Bill Murray'' on Wednesday, and the very next day a hacker stole 119 ETH from his wallet. Crypto-influencer Fatman Terra pitched a face investment scheme, raising more than $100K and 5.45 BTC from Twitter and Discord, just to prove how easy is to get money for whatever far-fetched scam, and returned everyone's money after that. Avalanche-based lending protocol Nereus had a flash loan exploit, the hacker being able to mint 998K of NXUSD utilising a $508K flash loan from AAVE. Net profit: $371K. Federal Reserve board chair Jerome Powell asked once again for the stablecoin regulation. They really got an obsession with the stablecoins, is this the main threat to their future centralized stablecoins?
- Joke of the day: As USDC was close to lose their first place to USDC, and the gap between second place and BUSD increased, Binance decided that it is the right time to retaliate, and announced that they will convert all the USDC, Paxos and TrueUSD stablecoins into BUSD on September 29. Sometimes you need to do that in order to survive, or all this is just a combined effort of Binance and USDT to stop their competitors before they overtake them all.
