An Introduction to Security for Activists, Organizers, and Revolutionaries!

in #liberty4 years ago

I know most of you are new to the freedom trail.

A few of you have made it down the path to personal freedom and should be concerned with personal safety.

Liberty doesn't come with built in defenses for your personal safety.
In fact, the broader world is designed to entrap you.

One of the biggest hurdles to freeing the statists is that they are not ready to be responsible for themselves.
It just goes against their training too much.

As this is the situation we freedom lovers find ourselves in, we must adopt best practices that facilitate our liberty while not compromising our safety in a statist world.

The police man is not your friend, if that ideal was not the first casualty of your walk on the wild side, get over it now.
If you want to stay free to see a general state of freedom.

The modern surveillance state is unparalleled.
Many people are legitimately afraid of state repression.

But this fear can easily become paranoia and paralysis.
As a result, some people will not get involved in radical organizing at all.
Others will stay involved, but their paranoia will drive people away.
The result?
Our movements die.

How do we combat this?

By creating a “security culture” in our groups.

What is Security Culture?

Security culture is a set of practices and attitudes designed to increase the safety of political communities.
These guidelines are created based on recent and historic state repression, and help to reduce paranoia and increase effectiveness.

What is the “Firewall”?

Here at Deep Green Resistance, we are an “aboveground” organization with a firewall between us and underground action.
That means that our primary work is legal (although this varies depending on jurisdiction).
Our members also take part in non-violent direct action of the sort common among aboveground movements.
This is in contrast with “underground” organizations that conduct clandestine, highly illegal activities.
We advocate for this, as we think coordinated underground action is the best chance for saving the planet.
