I woke up this morning knowing I had so many chores to do around the house! After making a quick yet filling breakfast...
& cleaning my home...
It was time to go outside and tend to my vegetable beds. In our Swiss Chard bed there was a couple of healthy looking weeds growing. I was pleasantly surprised when I saw it was wild lettuce! Or Opium Lettuce as it is also known due to its pain relieving properties. Opium Lettuce is easy to identify. It grows vertically with leaves similar to dandelion and has prickly “hairs” growing out the stem as well as a milky sap.
Some like to use it as a tea but I prefer to make a tincture.
And it’s super easy to do!
Wash and coarsely chop up your Opium Lettuce including the root.
Add to a glass jar and cover completely in 90 proof vodka. Let infuse for no less than 2 weeks in a cool dark area. Strain and add to a labeled apothecary bottle.
This is a great pain reliever and muscle relaxer when used accordingly. Take as directed by your primary care physician or herbalist. This plant ally may cause hallucinations, dizziness and other complications if used incorrectly so please be careful.
Please remember, although natural, this is a medicinal tincture and you should consult with your physician in case there’s a possibility of interfering with any medical condition or treatment. Please do not give to children without first consulting a medical professional. This is not intended to treat, prevent or cure any condition. Keep this and any tinctures away from children and pets!
I hope you are all staying healthy and safe!
