Is it really that simple?

in #life5 years ago

Hey My J's,

It's me back again for your daily dose of random thoughts for the day is my thoughts around looking for complex answers and trying to be too clever when sometimes the answer is so simple. I often fall prey to this sort of thinking, like answers cannot be obvious. I enjoy reading about complex issues and concepts or listening to podcasts from anything from economics to science.

So often when I'm faced with a problem I tend to overthink, run through every possible scenario I can, applying various solutions and trying to come out at the conclusion that provides either the best answer or the most favourable outcome.

It is indeed a terrible habit of mine but one I wouldn't quickly change, to be honest.

A simple answer

The simple answer has always been overlooked or seen as an over simplifaction, that we're overlooking so many other arguments, yet the simple answer can sometimes be the best. Instead of validating all your possible theories, you could pick the simple answer and action it. If it fails you've learned if it succeeds you learn and reach a favourable outcome.

Intelligence and overthinking can sometimes get in the way of progress as instead of actioning we procrastinate and want to have all variables lined up before we make a decision. The world and life don't always present you with all of the facts and sometimes the simple answer is not just being lazy but taking a leap of faith and trusting your instincts.

KISS

Keep it simple, stupid or however, you want to use the acronym has become so important in this day and age. We're all trying to develop tools and ways of making things easier, simpler and more efficient so why not with our thinking too? Are we humans realising that we actually crave a simple life free off all these convoluted structures we've built that make up modern society?

I realise there is room for a major counter-argument on this point which I'm totally open to, knock it out in the comments!

Have your say

What do you good people of steem think? Do you look for the simple answer?

Holla at me in the comments! All my commenters I will now refer to as Jessie. Jessie is a good friend of mine, but Jessies got a girl, and I want to make her mine.

So have at it my Jessies! If you don't have something to comment, simply comment "I am a Jessie."

When you have a problem and you need a solution you often come up with a first answer which is not always the best. You think it through and suddenly it makes click and you find this simple answer. However this answer is not really simple its just much better and you don't get why you didn't find it earlier.
The Good answers need time to find...

That is True; the simple answer doesn’t mean it’s just the gut feeling or the quickest reaction answer the simple answer would be the straightest path to your goal but you complicated it by adding other considerations that may not be a factor the only factor is actioning it

No that's not that simple. If we're look into the past years all the politics party who had a simple anwser to complex question ( Brexit, Immigration,...) just created chaos

Decision always seen to become more complex with the more people you involve or affect with the situation!

Also those examples are motivated by many things and is by no means the “simple” answer to things!

I was more referring to decision you make in your life, like sometimes we make them complex due to our emotions or our biases or preconceived notions and sometimes we try to avoid the simple answer

For example in a relationship you could be honest and say what’s bothering you but you choose to act out find a round about approach to voice your frustrations
