Strangler Figs

in #life4 years ago

Throughout the Daintree Rainforest you can find parasitic strangler figs which wrap themselves around a host tree, eventually killing it and consuming it.

The rainforest is a highly competitive place with each element of the flora and fauna competing to get the most sunlight that it can. The strangler figs can sometimes take over a tree in only one season, in a much slower death it can take up to a decade. There are more than 1400 species of strangler fig trees around the world.

Heading back to the lodge at the end of the day we got an amazing view of Mount Sorrow which we'd climbed earlier in the day. It was incredible to see how dense the forest is.
