My Experience with Alternate Day Fasting after 8 weeks. Meine Erfahrunge nach 8 Wochen Intervallfasten(english-german)

in #life5 years ago

8weeksADF.jpg

Today I would like to give an interim report about my Interval fast. I've been doing Alternate Day Fasting (ADF) for 8 weeks, which means taking turns eating one day and fasting one day.

Here is my summary.

In the beginning, my fast day was very difficult and I had massive hunger attacks. Mineral water with soda helped me a great deal, in addition I drank tomato juice and carrot juice. But over time, it was always better to hold fast.

So far, I have lost about 6 pounds and my waist circumference has been significantly reduced. Overall, I feel very well.
What I like the most is that on the day of the meal I can eat whatever I feel like and do not have to count calories.

But the most amazing thing happened to my wife. She has been diagnosed with chronic colitis (ulcerative colitis) for several years with severe attacks of diarrhea. A life without the daily intake of mesalazine (Salofalk) was no longer possible. In recent years, she has left the house only with the prior use of loperamide (diarrhea blocker) and there have been situations where even this failed. After about a week of fasting, the diarrhea stopped and has not come back yet.
She can now happily take her beloved walks every day and her quality of life has increased considerably.
We hypothesize that through this ADF, which in many reports have predicted positive effects on inflammation in the body. You can read about other positive aspects of fasting throughout the internet.

I will do this kind of fasting for a few weeks to my desired weight and then switch to a slightly lighter version to avoid the yo-yo effect. Whether I continue with 16/8 (which means 16 hours fasting and only eat in the remaining 8 hours) or 5/2 (only 2 fast days a week) I do not know yet. Anyway, I'll keep telling you.

Good health and best regards.

When you say fasting... does that mean just water and some sort of light food/sugars? Or just the fruit/tomato juices and no solid food? It's a pretty big commitment! I'm not sure that I could do that... although, I do often skip lunch... it's not quite the same thing....

Thanks for passing by @bengy. We only drink sparkling water, tomato juice, carrot juice, and tea or coffee. No sugar. If you keep away from food for 16 hours your body starts with burning fat. If you google you find this type of fasting too, it's called interval fasting. It will be the fasting we will choose for the time after the ADF to avoid the increase of the weight as often after diets.

My thoughts go out to your wife. I had Ulcerative Colitis, which has since settled. If she is around the blockchain, it may be worth to follow @crohnschick, who is a friend of mine that posts about her trials and tribulations with crohns disease, and has a lot of experience with IBD, UC, and other conditions.

Glad to hear the AF is working for you! :)

Thanks a lot, @holoz0r. I will follow him, to be informed for my wife.

Are you fasting for religious reasons or for health? It seems like a worthwhile exercise, better than dieting.

We do it for health and weight reduction. And it's much better than dieting. You don't have to count calories when you eat.

I have not heard of this ADF, it sounds interesting @ikarus56 I will follow your journey for updates.
