The Kids Are Getting Good Grades!

Check out little Logan! He's the shorter one on the left. It had to be at least 75 degrees out that day and there he is, jacket on and hoodie up.

ADHD and autism are challenges Logan is learning to overcome. That jacket provides comfort and helps him feel safe. It's a sensory thing that many with autism experience.

And, of course, that's his older brother Devin right next to him. As a father, I couldn't be more proud of these two boys. We recently got their updated grades in the mail.

Some parents may expect perfection from their kids in regard to grades. We don't.

We expect passing marks and consistent improvement. Both our oldest boy and our youngest delivered this time around.

It would be putting it lightly to say that school these days is anywhere near normal. These boys have a mom working full time from home. I, myself, do HIVE writing, work on my website FishtFight.com, and work part to full time hours testing concrete.

Parents deserve an honorary teaching credential

I suppose I should add a teaching resume to both our current job titles as well. We both understand that teachers are doing the best they can and are not grading that tough right now. Still, with school closures in full effect, I think we all deserve a hand!

Teachers, parents, and kids have all done an amazing job. The school supplied Chromebooks to each of our boys which really did help. We seem to be in need of some better Laptops.

I must declare for all you parents out there who are struggling with kids, school, and getting them going that it hasn't been easy. The teachers have online learning for the kids to attend 5 days a week.

Turning the home learning into a daily habit was the hardest part. It took a consistent message from my wife and I along with a whole lotta support to the boys.

Devin will be 15 soon and he honestly loves to learn. Logan enjoys learning but dislikes the work and focus it requires. He'd way rather be playing on the computer.

Funny thing is....Devin struggles with his grades while they come easy to Logan. In all fairness, Logan isn't graded as strictly as Devin is. Devin also has the emotional intelligence to understand this.

So without much left to say, I'll leave the results below. Go Devin!!! Go Logan!! I can't say how much they mean to me and they are making their parents SO Very Proud!

Perhaps having them homeschooling for a bit will help you to learn how Logan learns best and maybe incorporate this when schools go back. It's really not uncommon for children to struggle with the traditional "sit down and get the work done" approach to learning, but it's hard for teachers with big classes to do it any other way. They certain have little time to figure out each individual child's best learning approach. I know some teachers have found ways to incorporate fidget methods into their classes, which help them focus. I heard a story that one teacher put elastic bands around the chair legs so the children could swing and bounce their legs on them while they worked.

Anyway, well done teacher/dad, sounds like you're doing a great job!

Thanks for your kind and detailed reply. That's some really good advice for Logan when school resumes. We have talked about homeschooling both boys before Covid came. My wife's sister does with her kids. I think he has very good support through his IEP and one teacher who really gets him. 😁😁

Yay!
