What is an Abundant Life

present in great quantity; more than adequate; oversufficient: an abundant supply of water.

The question crossed my mind this afternoon about defining an abundant life. We could obviously read the definition above and think in terms of material items. I agree that is part of it. There is certainly enjoyment to be had in riding a boat or traveling to see remote destinations. Those activities require resources. Still, I think there is more to it than that.

Before going on my walk today I sat with my extended family and enjoyed two of the new babies in our family. The feeling of love amongst us was prevalent. Resources of food, water, and a comfy camper to enjoy our time we’re there, yet it was the shared time of people that made it all come together.

I believe giving is at the heart of abundance. We have all seen people that have an abundance of money not truly live abundantly - their instincts can lean towards hoarding. We have all seen people with abundance of other resources not believe they have it all.

Abundance without giving creates a staleness of those resources and consequently displays a staleness of spirit within the individual.

Think about it, when we give we are naturally showing we believe in abundance. When we offer our hospitality to others we are agreeing that there is more to come and sharing what we have becomes a joyful experience.

I believe that giving whether we have an abundance or not creates the atmosphere in our minds to truly enjoy either circumstance. For truly it is how we think about the situation that illumines how abundant we are. It is our reaction to life that creates the emotions of gratitude and thankfulness in our spirit.

Abundance can begin in you and me today. We do not have to wait for the vacation house or extra money in our account to feel it. We can enjoy that today. The funny thing I have noticed in life is that more abundance flows of those things we give freely. It is as if the more seeds we have in our hands the bigger harvest we can enjoy. Our choice to let those seeds go and plant them is the difference between a scarcity mindset and knowing the truth about our world. Abundance is reality.
