A self induced downer of a day, and putting a lid on it with help from a guest

in #life3 years ago

The rains came last night! It hammered it down all night and for most of the day, it was a very damp day!

When I say damp, I mean we've had enough rain to fill and entire outdoor swimming pool:

(Left was yesterday morning, I shit you not, right was a few hours ago and it's still raining!)

The cabin's stayed dry, however, and it's been warm enough. I've only needed the heater for a couple of hours.

The day's been a downer not because of weather, that's actually been quite pleasant, watching the natural swimming pool fill up, and I'm actually quite pleased that the cabin set up is comfortable even when it rains - it's been OK boiling water for tea and coffee on the outside stove, I've worked out a functional system that means I don't get too wet.

No, the day's been a downer because of my own ill-discipline.

I was supposed to get ahead with writing for main blog today, given the rain this was a great day to get my head down and ahead with writing - it really wasn't an 'out day'!

But all I've managed to do is write one short blog post (that needed writing to keep up with the output (I've now run out of the three week buffer I had, but that was in place to see my through moving abroad, so it's done its job) and then download a few files and do a bit of planning. Not very productive.

Instead I seem to have managed to spend a lot of time fretting over stuck ETH transations and just dicking about on Hive and LEO, which is really not a great use of my time, although I guess I've earned a bit from posting.

I finally managed to cancel some stuck transactions, and sort my ETH wallets out, but then I managed to accidentally send 0.5 ETH to another wallet, not my own wallet on metamask.

I think it's my wallet, there are only HUNT token transactions going on, and I recognise them all, I just can't track down the keys. I tried to access my encrypted USB today, but it doesn't work on my Mac Book - i've managed to bring the wrong one and leave the one that functions in the UK.

So I've got no security back up for a while!

At least I've got flight vouchers back to the UK which need using fairly soon, so I guess I'll just have to wait for until then to get my other compatible USB disk with all my hard passwords on. Hopefully I won't need them for a few months.

And in the midst of all this the chickens started going nuts - and I ran out and found a fox sprawled on top of the coop and the chucks going cray, all alive but freaked out - and that wasn't pleasant. I had a moments panic when I could only see 3 chickens and 1 rooster - but the fourth one was in the hutch, oblivious to everything. Probably the stupid one!

And to top it all I accidentally bought non alcoholic beers fro the local shop yesterday, they're not very nice, but I'm drinking them to punish myself for my own stupidity.

I rounded off the day by fucking up my Duolingo lesson and had to burn some of my 'gems' on more 'hearts' (lives).

Not a great day in all, wasted by me spending my mental energy unwisely on pointless online tasks.

Still, the day's ended on a high note, I've got my first house guest staying the night:

I even managed to avoid getting too wet when he arrived wanting to be petted.

He'll be handy as a chicken panic alarm, which will help me sleep more soundly!

TOMORROW WILL BE A MORE PRODUCTIVE DAY!

😂

You won't do that again, for a while at least!

I'm finding each day to be productive as long as I learn a little music and Spanish, sticking a blog out would be the full house!

You must be quite busy with the job, otherwise I'd say that was a low bar!

Honestly I think you're missing out if you're not daily posting! You've got a guaranteed high income, just think of a series or two or something!

The Splinterlands weekly quest - there's an easy one to get you started!

What music are you learning?

Yeah I know I'm missing out, and the weekly Splinterlands quest looks like a good one.

Started to learn the keyboard, progress feels so slow but at least it will keep me busy for life :)

Lol. It sounds like we had similar days. My frustration was Google analytics, but...

Glad it ended on a good note for you.

Oh Google Analytics.

That SEO technical stuff has been on my to do list for about 5 years.

I've settled for just learning the basic rules and keeping my posts up to date every couple of years or so, seems to work OK!

It sounds like you've had an interesting journey. It's been a while since I checked to see what you were up to. The cabin looks really cozy and it seems like life is pretty interesting for you these days where you are living now.

It's amazing how you learn animal noises like your chickens and can infer information from them the more you are with them. My pet ducks have a specific quack that means danger and it's so loud I can hear it inside the house. If there is a bird or plane in the sky while I'm in the garden I know because they freeze, get silent, and turn their head sideways to look up. It's good you heard your chickens and caught that fox. Make sure it can't tunnel underneath. You could lose them all at once with that kind of predator.

Ahh trust me it doesn't take a Dr Dolittle to have figured out something was wrong last night - they were just screeching like crazy!

And I've seen the fox before, so I know he's about.

The dog was useless, I don't think he gives a damn about the chickens!

It's quite hard rocky ground, so I think we're OK on the tunnelling front.

But the coop isn't that sturdy, the fox was right on top, but they're not even my chickens, I'm just closer to them.

Interesting about the plane, very interesting creatures.

Haha, love your tales man..., if that pool gets bigger it may encroach into your living space, be aware!

It'd take A LOT more rain for to happen, which is highly unlikely - and I think there's a small stream which drains away a bit further down anyway.

The next bank up is about twice the diameter, and the huts on the next step up, up a slope, a couple of feet off the ground.

SAFE!

I know what you mean about self-discipline. I can find a day disappears without doing what I intended. It's raining here today, so I ought to try and get stuff done.

A fox is a worry with the chickens. There are some around here, but we have been lucky so far.

Shame about the beer. Another reason to learn the language better. I slipped up once on holiday about bought condensed milk instead of the normal stuff.

At least condensed milk is the right way round, you get more of the good stuff!
