we often hear words of wisdom that state that reading is a window to the world. the sentence is true, but to be able to generate interest in reading is not an easy matter. It will be difficult to get people to want to read books, magazines, journals or encyclopedias.
We still prefer to be listeners and viewers. The knowledge we get a lot that we get from people talking or watching through visual media. For example there are videos that are edited, cut so as to cause hatred to one other group. There is also the result of watching a video and then a fight which is once stopped.
Even worse we do not know the truth of the news or information. We can only believe without confirming the truth. many people do not want to find a source that can really be trusted.
The habit of getting information from gossip leaves many people trapped in disproportionate conversation. whereas, if you know what actually happened it would be a shame to behave.
The reality in this society is that hoax spreaders can easily break unity. They take the video and then cut the video and add another caption to make people believe it is as if this video is a full view of a video.
Check the news source and confront it with other sources
When we get suspicious news such as invitations against, insulting other groups, or discrediting others, we don't need to take it too seriously.
We can't just swallow the news. we must look at the content and context so that we can examine the news and information well.
to be able to see the truth of the information we can take several steps.
1. Check news sources
News will be more reliable if it comes from the mainstream media. If the source is from an unknown media, chances are they are spreading false news. If we immediately believe, we have become victims of hoaxes.
2. Confront with other sources.
As rational people, we cannot believe in one source of information. This skeptic will build logical thinking so that we do not easily become victims of hoaxes.
3. Don't just spread the message
Hoax spreaders often use mass psychology to manage the news. They often use the issue of victims of one event to spread hoaxes. Readers who feel provoked will spread hoaxes without knowing the truth. this can be dangerous because it can have legal consequences for its spreaders.
Therefore we must be wise in responding to information.
