The history of place has always intrigued me; and the house I rent a room in is so fascinating and full of ghosts I am drawn to discover it’s secrets. I have been wanting to try working with a metal detector for a long time; I recently found a cheep pinpointer online and thought “why not”

When I could finally get the pointer a new battery I set to work. First I assembled tools; the makeup of which changed over time. Here are the tools I use for the more shallow digs.

I started in the clay soil near the garden as it always called to me. I found mostly pennies and nails at first, but then I dig deeper and found ash and what looked like burned wood and papers. I then put on a mask on because the dust was getting very fine.
I felt a very deep connection as I dug to the history of the home and it’s hidden stories.

I became very tired of digging and decided to fill the hole in until a cooler day came. I thought I had not found anything worth noting, but a final sweep turned up this beauty.

I think I hurt my body digging that day. I thought I was done with it, but that night I had a strange dream.

I was following my brother into a cafe, it was dark and not like I remembered it and full of people fading in and out. I asked them “Who are you? Why are you hear” and they said “ We are here for you.” When I woke I saw faces on the walls that did not fade until I turned the light on.

The next day I decided to explore an area in the back near some trees. People always seem to bury things near trees so it seemed like a perfect spot to find a possible cache of old pennies, an old tub of ale or a time capsule.

Of those I found none, but I did fine a lot of interesting bric brac. Pottery, old beads, a clasp for a necklace, and various interesting looking objects.

I didn’t want to dig much further near the trees out of fear of disrupting their roots, so the next day I dug in the soil near the parking lot. Not much in terms of finds that day; just a bunch of nails and a wheat penny that may or may not be worth anything. I did also find what looks like part of an old blade however.

Not sure where I will dig next. Perhaps I will dig further in the clay area and see what I can find. It kind of freaks me out a little; unsure why. My brother says his snake is buried near there.
