All in moderation

in #life7 years ago (edited)

Another gorgeous day in the twin cities. Perfect weather to lounge outdoors and catch some sun or hang indoors with all the windows open, sipping an ice-tea. Am I the only one that worries about getting an ugly tan? I made sure to dress appropriately to avoid a crisis.

I ventured outside of @caffetto to do some light reading. @jthiessen lent me the ninth volume of The Promised Neverland. The series keeps getting better and better! I also dug up Wotakoi: Love is Hard for Otaku. I picked this baby up two years ago at C2E2 after getting hyped up during a panel, read half of it and then decided to stop because it was so freaking good! I wanted to finish reading this after the next volume’s release since I hate waiting in suspense.

My heat tolerance is low so I was teased a bit for complaining that I was hot. It’s currently 62ºF, mostly sunny. My friends eventually cut me some slack because they don’t understand what it’s like to have jet black hair. I was able to lean back on the bench to tuck my head back in the shade, still tanning the rest of my body. I’m thinking that I need to get myself a either a cute hat or a parasol.

I’m constantly reminding myself that I need to take all things in moderation. Work, play and everything in between.

Today’s agenda

  • Read
  • Sun bathe
  • Have a good meal
  • Socialize
  • Draw
  • Play games
  • Refresh my resume
  • Other misc. adulting things that I’ve been avoiding.... 🙄

What’s the worst tan you’ve ever gotten?☀️

Thanks for reading.🦊

well about the tan! lol I remember my nose was very painful! :D
your agenda looks pretty complete, all about self nourishment. <3

Yes! I’m trying to keep my spirits high this summer! ^^

yes we because other way around just doesn't work for anyone! <3

I'm sure lots of people worry about getting weird tan lines and such. I kinda do myself sometimes...but usually not enough to prevent it before it happens. Usually I just start thinking about it after I already start to get it.

Lol! I’m the same way. I doubted the intensity of the sun and tried to convince myself that I wouldn’t get a cross tan but I did. Now I have to avoid T-shirts!

Could be worse. You could have been wearing a pentacle, then a Christian would see it and freak out that you have been marked by the beast or some such.

Haha! 🤣 That’s definitely a lvl up from the usual 90s butterfly or heart paper they stick on you at tanning salons.

They stick butterflies and heart paper on you at tanning salons? That's evil.

It’s true! I remember friends showing them off to me and I cringe when I think about it. That trend died and I hope it stays dead.

The next trend will be little droplets of lotion on the lower back before the tan...

An "ugly" tan? Like a farmer tan?

😆 Yep! Farmers tan is the worst for me!

I usually end up with a nice red "tan" the first time I'm out. That's not very attractive, either.

Ouch! Redness always concerns me because I worry about sunburns. To me they hurt more than getting tattooed.

I don't worry about getting tanned at all because it's kind of my default colour XD Though I do go darker if I'm in the sun long enough and somehow still have lines froma few months ago when we were swimming every day x_x lol.

I've got pretty dark hair and have better heat tolerance than most of my friends, maybe you just have low heat tolerance because you have low heat tolerance? :D

It’s crazy how long a tan can stick! A couple years back I was always outside and I wasn’t sure if I’d ever lose it. Now that my skin has gotten back to my natural shade I’ll avoid the sun because I don’t want to pay money to buy new makeup. 😆

Haha, yeah my tolerance is laughable. My comfort level is around 65°-73°F my mood gets foul with the slightest changes. I hate sweating and I hate when my toes are cold! That’s great that you can withstand the heat. I can force my body to get used to it but we still might get snow here. 😑 Ugh, what’s the point?

I am the same with heat @vermillionfox ! I hate the hot and much prefer the cool. That's why Spring and Autumn are my faves, the 45-55 F is my sweet spot for temps and I love rainy afternoons too.

It's funny I used to tan, when I was MUCH younger, on purpose, now I do everything to protect my skin. Whenever I look at old family photos (read 1905 and earlier) it's always amazing to see people in floor length skirts and parasols in July. However, I bet NO one had skin cancer back then.

I've also started swimming with the long sleeve and full leg UV protective fabric beach wear they make now.

I always dream of going back to my University ways of dressing like it's 1905 more often on the daily. I even now still garden in skirts (though usually knee length) but with my wellies and my garden gloves and hat, it's pretty good sun protection :)

Hi @vermillionfox good to see you! I totally get the heat thing.

I don't tan, I burn. The joys of being a ginger...

Also, are you going to Anime Fusion this fall? I help run the video game room out there. https://www.animefusion.net
