Snow - Light Painting On HIVE

It has been snowing on and off in Berlin for a few days now. In recent years, this has been a rather rare occurrence. So I asked @gunnarheilmann if he would like to build a snowman and do some light paintings in the snow. We set off for the abandoned railway site.

First I lit @gunnarheilmann from behind with the Emisar D4V2, then a little bit the rails from the front. I then turned the camera 180° and moved it to the left. I then lit the rails with a blue colour filter, turned the camera to the right and then lit them a second time. The idea was for the rails to cross over Gunnar's head.

It took us a few attempts until it actually worked. Apart from the alignment, I am no longer used to working in the snow. Everything is much brighter than usual.

For this picture I had a prism attached in front of the lens. I lit @gunnarheilmann with green light from behind, then removed the prism and lit the scene without the fab filter.

Next, we had a good romp on two free-standing trees. I still had the prism in front of the lens. That wasn't really the plan, but I still like the picture.

I then repeated the image again without the prism. I lit the scene with the Emisar D4V2 and the Noctigon DM11.

Then, after taking some more pictures of another oak tree, we made our way back. By now we were frozen through. Even the thick woollen socks didn't help. I hope we can do it again soon. In the next few days, however, the snow will melt, the weather forecast predicts 8°C.

WHAT IS LIGHT PAINTING?

Light painting is a unique form of art. The darkness is illuminate by the artist with diverse light sources and light traces are paint into the picture with various light tools. Various techniques are use, such as camera rotation or other movements of the camera during the exposure. The creative possibilities are almost unlimited. All the pictures were taken during one single exposure. Apart from denoising, sharpening, cutting and possibly adjusting the white balance, the pictures are not processed on the computer.

Coole Schneebilder.

Danke 😊

Kein Schnee am Wochenende? Schade. 😂

Nee muss nicht unbedingt sein.

Nee? Schnee im Hangar? Stell ich mir ziemlich cool vor. 😁

Haha, nice shot here, looking forward to seeing your photos.

Thanx .. i put a link up above 😎

I have you bookmarked, lol, so I just saw, thanks! Not keen on missing lightpainting since I'm so fascinated by what all of you are creating.

That's awesome thank you for your support .. we always try new things. But then there are those nights we are just playing. 🙏

You're welcome, happy to do so! I like the new things and am a total fan of playing around, since that's my approach to creating.

Haste jut jemacht!👌

Vielen Dank für Deine lobenden Worte. 😊

Gerne😊

The first two, the snow makes it look like clouds in sky and the whole effect with the train tracks and icy colour looks great.

Is that the same big oak tree you've been photographing? Prism effect gives it this portal feeling, kind of seeing that in some of your photos lately. Interesting progression with the last three, I like the last one best.

Thanks 🙂
No, it is another oak. But only about 200 metres away.

You're welcome! It was hard to tell whether it was or not but the area looked similar.

Yay! 🤗
