George Orwell published "1984" on June 8, 1949, and it has since been viewed as...
"..a profound anti-utopian novel that examines the dangers of totalitarian rule." (source)
He published the novel in the year of his passing.
My aunt gave me her copy a few years ago, hand notes, markings and all. I keep it on my shelf.
Now may be a good time for a reread.
