It's Been A Busy Month
And I need an assistant. I'm two weeks behind on all my bids, and that is WITH the added help of pawning off several of my jobs to the other interior designers who work at the office. I have TOO MUCH WORK! I can't get it all done, let alone in a timely manner. I need an assistant who can put together the measurements and DRAW UP THE BIDS FOR ME, so I can focus on the design and consultation work. It would be so much more effective this way.
But I have been told previously this simply wasn't going to happen. We would need to hack it on our own. So my work has suffered as a result, and so has the growth of my business and the overall business growth for the company. A company will only grow as fast as it allows. And we cannot grow if we can't take more work.
So The Other Day
I was having a little chat with one of my favorite Law Of Assumption friends, who shares my namesake, Rebekah (mine is Rebecca). I told her it had been insanely busy at work lately, and I wanted my manager to hire an additional assistant, but I felt convinced he would be too short sighted (and cheap) to do so, as he had in the past.
I said, "I want to manifest another assistant. I just don't think he'll go for it."
So she said, "He'll go for it."
This Was On The 13th.
I did exactly what she suggested I do, on the 13th, then forgot about it. It is now the 19th. And as of YESTERDAY, my boss announced to me after hours that he was going to be hiring another virtual assistant to help put the bids together. Simple as that.
"I want you guys to be able to focus on the design consults and business growth so you can make more sales. You can't do that if you're stuck doing bid work all day."
I was dumbfounded. I had not said a THING. It was as if he had read my mind. And this is not the first time.

In a period of two months, ALL THREE of the girls senior to me (in time at the company) have decided to move on to greener pastures. Each for different reasons. One of them is moving to Texas, the other is starting her own firm, and the other pursued a completely different career. What this means is, I'm taking on all the different roles that might have gone to them. I am senior designer.
As for the new assistant - having someone take over bid work will free up time for me to do the things above -- which I prefer to do anyway, as they contribute to a happier, healthier workplace, and they gain me another raise, more experience, and the ability to have influence over the growth of the store.
