Market Friday Rotch Jones Duff house

This is the one tag and daily challenge that I always make a point of joining, and also look through the posts of others that join the challenge and seeing markets from all around the world.
For this weeks post, I am going to share some shots of the visit Lulu and I did to the Retch Jones Duff house Museum here in New Bedford
This is the second post of the inside of the Museum, I showed the Downstairs in thispost
For this post I am going to share shots from the Upstairs portion of the house,
So up the stairs we went, and into what I guess was the Master bedroom,
A little bit about the property
The William Rotch Jr. House, now the Rotch–Jones–Duff House and Garden Museum, is a National Historic Landmark at 396 County Street in New Bedford, Massachusetts, in the United States. The three families whose names are attached to it were all closely tied to the city's nineteenth-century dominance of the whaling industry. Because of this, the house is part of the New Bedford Whaling National Historical Park.
Richard Upjohn built the house in the Greek Revival architectural style for William Rotch Jr. in 1834, on a New Bedford plot Rotch had inherited from his father. It was Upjohn's first house, near the beginning of a long career. Rotch also commissioned a garden in the rear, which later owners would significantly expand. The property remained private until 1981, when it was bought by local preservationists and reopened as a historic house museum. It was declared a National Historic Landmark and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2005. Today the museum educates visitors not only about whaling but, through its gardens and associated programs for local schools, about the environment as well.
They gave a printout which described what was in each room, and they also had descriptions by many of the pieces

and even a dolls house
And dolls
Some clothes and toys
And didn't suitcases and Hat boxes have such style back then

I have been waiting to get to the second floor! The armoire in the Master Bedroom looks classy, with the drawers and the moulding at the top of the piece. I do like the four-poster bed, which were popular, although again, very moneyed for that time. I am impressed at the amount of education that goes on in this one house. It is the small details that they did not overlook that is really amazing. The clock is a timepiece that every good family had a took great care in. The ladies brush set under glass is another piece of the time period. This was such a wonderful wandering through that you got to do.
The hat boxes and mannequin headpieces to keep the ladies hats in shape surprised me as I didn't think they had closets back then, just armoires, but, it could have been added later. The houses always had wider hallways to accommodate the larger furniture a way in, especially the armoires. Many didn't come apart unless they were from Europe. I have always loved the large moulding to give it a rich look. The little conversation/book reading corners through the house is a sign of the times. People actually sat and chatted and read back then. :)) The oil lamp on the desk was pretty cool and I love to see quills. Can you imagine writing with one of them? The Quaker hat that is on the stand is what they call a prayer covering. One looks like a ladies night hat. The black is a Quaker Bonnet. A hat for every important moment. That was pretty cool to see all of them in one sitting.
Every girl had a handmade dollhouse, everything is so intact and even the dolls! The white child's clothes could have been girl or boy. Boys wore white linen dresses until they were a few years old. No discrimination there! I do love the trunks and have a couple of them that I have kept. They were left in an old house that I had. Those are incredible hat boxes! I have actually never seen one so fancy! This was such an interesting tour! I would have loved to see it!

I enjoy visiting museums like that, love the old architecture and all those old clothes, trunks, hat boxes.
Every item is interesting, you must have been there awhile to take it all in. I think the best pieces were the baby cradle and high chair, yet that four poster bed was beautiful.

I to love museums imagining what it was like in the times of the pieces ones sees, we did spent a long time there, it was a weekday and we were the only ones there so we could take our time and enjoy it

Good morning JJ,
I've been out all day long yesterday and came too late home to turn the computer on.
Yesterday was very nice, but today has begun rainy ... I got up at 4, got dressed for a motorbike ride, looked out of the window, changed my clothes and drove by car around, but it was mostly rainy wherever I went. We have had this before I think - you should first look out of the window and then decide 😆 lol
I hope your Sunday is better with some sunshine after the garden was watered yesterday 🌞
