What is Heavy Metal?

At Wikipedia they say:

Heavy metal (or simply metal or heavy rock) is a genre of rock music that developed in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Where is the band Scorpions from?

The answer is simple, as they are from Germany. But even better, and sometimes I'm a little bit proud about that fact, that they are from:

Sarstedt, a little town between Hannover and Hildesheim - where @detlev grew up

and if you look a little bit closer

Rudolf Schenker (born 31 August 1948 in Hildesheim, Lower Saxony) is a German guitarist and founder of the hard rock band Scorpions, being the rhythm guitarist, primary songwriter and longest-serving original member.
