It was an obvious playing out of the FreeMasonic Path to Apotheosis. Dualism playing out into the final synthesis of light and dark into the final "God" made flesh. Hence the reason why they had to kiss in the end, as the synthesis of both the dark side and the light side into a new combining of the two sides. They even made her light saber Sun yellow, and had her head in a Sun at the end of the movie. If you look at the FreeMason Chart, when the candidate rises up one side or the other to the top, they become equal to the Masonic God, which is the Sun with a G in the center on the highest step, where the two lodges Blue / Red combine into the Apotheosis which is the Sun or yellow (sometimes depicted as purple as well).
