Chicago, favorite city for many young players in the late twenties, is also associated with appropriation by white musicians of New Orleans style.

The "Chicagoans" are mostly from wealthy families and classical formations.

This is reflected in the chicagoan style whose harmonious arrangements and good technical level (Benny Goodman, Bix Beiderbecke, Eddie Condon, Mezz Mezzrow, Pee Wee Russell, Bud Freeman, or Gene Krupa), transfigured the improvised music of the time .

During times of crisis and prohibition (1920-1930), Kansas City was at the forefront of modernism in jazz.

Characterized by his soul, his blusey style and his energetic solos, the Kansas City model was launched by pianist Bennie Moten and was the starting point for Count Basie (pianist, organist and conductor) and "Bird" (nickname of Charlie Parker, saxophonist).
