With a limited arsenal of instruments, they create a cacophony of jubilant sound.

DakhaBrakha – “Yanky”

“Yanky” (2016)

The Ukranian folk-punk quartet DakhaBrakha performed this song at Glastonbury in 2016. While the weather that day was damp and dreary, the music, the audience, and the atmosphere were bright, lively, and joyous.

A Hint of Flavour

I could not find much information about the song, nor any lyrics.

All I could discover was a comment on Reddit which states that the lyrics are in a Ukrainian dialect. They relate a story about going to a market, purchasing some fruit, and possibly baking a pie.   (Image source)

DakhaBrakha

DakhaBrakha is a Ukrainian world-music quartet whose roots are in folk music and avant-garde theater. With that unorthodox mix, the band creates what it calls “unexpected new music.”

A World of Cacophony

The band uses a variety of instruments – from Russia, Africa, Arabia, Australia, and beyond. Its music relies heavily on vocals and percussion, with some accordion, cello, and other instruments thrown in for good measure. With that limited arsenal, they create an unlimited cacophony of jubilant sound.

DakhaBrakha has played at concerts and festivals in dozens of countries around the world. In 2009, the band won the Sergey Kuryokhin Grand Prix for contemporary art.   (Image source)
