If you’re into artists like Juice Wlrd, Lil Peep or XXXtentacion then I invite you to check out the EP ‘Love Now, Cry Later’ by Turkish-American producer and artist MobBeatz. Check out the EP on Spotify here:

I seldom review rap music but ever since I discovered Lil Peep a few years ago I actually started to enjoy listening to this ‘new’ type of rap that some people even call ‘Emo Rap’ (as in Emotional Rap). While there are many artists out there doing music in this style, few actually write and produce songs that I can actually get into and I can usually tell straight away if I like the tracks or not.

When I first listened to MobBeatz I instantly knew this guy just has that special something that just can’t be taught. The ability to write catchy lyrics AND produce beats that actually complement the lyrics. All of these things are confirmed when you listen to the opening track called ‘Heart’. The intro and entire song is super chill and dreamy, but at the same time very catchy and deep. The problem many artists who try to do this style of rap have is that they just end up sounding boring, because they just follow the trend and don’t really understand this specific genre of music. This is definitely NOT the case here; while this track is very chill and dreamy, it is anything but boring. The second track on the EP is called ‘Mind Me’ and if anything this one is even better than the first track and at this stage I’m starting to really get into MobBeatz. I’m now starting to understand why this artist has produced music for some pretty big names like XXXtentacion and Nessly. The third track is called ‘Own Town’ and this track goes a little more in the direction of ‘normal’ rap, however the beats are once again outstanding. I have no idea who taught this guy to produce but this is top notch stuff. Each sample is mixed and mastered to perfection and the audio levels are perfect as well. Track 4 is called ‘Heaven Sent’ and at this stage I’m starting to notice that MobBeatz is actually using a lot of guitar samples, which I totally love. He also has a perfect sense for when to include drums and when to leave them out and this song in particular proves that point.

This EP features 8 track and while the first half is fire, I expected the second half to have at least one ‘filler’, in other words a song that’s just on there to make the EP longer. But the super catchy chorus in the song ‘Medicine’, the catchy piano samples and deep lyrics in ‘Stressed’, the beats in ‘Medics’ and the entire last track called ‘Demons Freestyle’ are all anything but fillers. In fact my personal favourite song on the entire EP might be ‘Stressed’. After listening to this EP it was no surprise when I discovered that MobBeatz won ‘Producer of the year’ from the New York Radio Station Hot 99.1FM. So all in all I can only recommend you check out the EP ‘Love Now, Cry Later’. Here are the official links:
