NBA 2K21 now includes unskippable ads

NBA 2K21 already has a questionable reputation due to its strong focus on microtransactions and it seems like it’s not going to get any better soon as 2K games, the company behind the NBA 2K series, has added unskippable ads to the game. So from now on players are forced to watch ads between games, like the ones about the Oculus Quest 2.

As said this is bringing further harm to the reputation of 2K and NBA 2K Games. It’s not uncommon to have unskippable ads in free-to-play games, but NBA 2K21 is a pay to play game, one for which you have to pay a rather decent price (44 euro in Belgium). Aggressive micro transactions and unskippable ads are not something players want to see in pay to play games.

2K was smart enough to introduce this just now, quite a bit after the release of the game. As a result this “feature” is not included in the majority of the reviews that you find online. Not that it would make much difference as the majority of the reviews are negative anyway due to the game just feeling like a copy of the previous game and due to the game feeling pay2win despite the game being Pay to play.

There used to be a time when the 2K sports franchises were awesome. Randy Moss and Warren Sapp made the cover, the console of choice was the Dreamcast, and sports games were awesome. It was fun to show up at a friend's house and play together.

Those were the days...

I never played them (Europeans and Fifa, right...) EA games is having a lot of shit with Ultimate team in Fifa being very Pay 2 win oriented. But what 2K is doing here is EA^2.

Imagine explaining that this is what video games will become to our 10 year old self 20 years ago. Saving all our allowance and than being able to fully enjoy a game for the weeks to come like you're pointing out. I'm really starting to believe the simpler times where better (or maybe we're just getting old... )

If you can get your hands on an NTSC TV and an American Dreamcast, NFL2K is awesome. I have a lot of great memories with that game.
