Ginsberg, known for her work championing women's rights, died at her home this Friday due to complications from pancreatic cancer.
According to NPR, she dictated this statement to her grand daughter: “My most fervent wish is that I will not be replaced until a new president is installed.”
She was appointed to the Supreme Court in 1993 by Bill Clinton and served until her death. In recent years, she became seen as the leader of the Supreme Court's liberal wing. Her death marks the third opening in the Supreme Court under the current administration.
This likely marks the end of the USA having a balanced Supreme Court, an extremely important aspect of the US Government. A balance of views in the Supreme court ensures that decisions made do not have any biases and are in line with the spirit of the law. An unbalanced court will lead to one party having more legal power than others and a further erosion of the USA's already deteriorated democracy.
