headline news SOUTH AFRICA----Call for Teachers to be armed

in #news5 years ago

The Educator's Union of South Africa has asked their members to carry firearms, after a 48-year-old teacher was killed yesterday. Sibonakaliso Nyawose was gunned down at Masuku Primary school. The union further explained if the teacher was armed he could have defended himself against his 2 armed perpetrators.

The department of basic Education has called the massage made by the union as irresponsible ,reckless and dangerous. By being armed , can only escalate more violence. Making it unsafe for teacher and students alike.
Furthermore, the union in question is not recognized.

The Kwazulu-natal MEC for education,Kwazi Mshengu said"rejected the call and said suggestion would complicate an already volatile situation." he added“The violence has left both learners and educators deceased, others injured, and perpetrators facing lengthy jail terms. The majority of cases we observed indicate that unresolved issues led to the violent attacks. Furthermore, the attacks have widely occurred outside school premises. We have also observed the rise in gang-related activity involving learners and violent incidents ending in unnecessary loss of life,”

Although, it may seem that it is irresponsible ,reckless and dangerous , in my opinion it seems necessary for solution. A week ago , apupil was stabbed to death in Forest High School. A teacher Ajibabi , from Luthayi High School was assaulted by a pupil. My very own son was taken out of school because other students of would violently assault him. He now does online schooling.

The Department education Claims that they are doing their best to combat the violence in schools. For me it is to little to late
What is you opinion
