WAX is Going There... Boldly

in #nfts4 years ago

WAX, The Worldwide Asset eXchange, has been pushing the envelope lately in the realms of NFTs and the future of collectibles. With their revolutionary deal with Topps that launched the 80s iconic Garbage Pail Kids as non-fungible tokens on the blockchain, WAX got the ball rolling toward mss adoption of blockchain collectibles like few other projects (if any) have been able to do.

Following the successful launch of first GPK series of cards and impressive results on secondary markets, everyone was abuzz about non-fungible tokens and where collecting was headed. Topps GPK then went on to latch onto the trendy success of the smash hit Tiger King with their “GPK Goes Exotic” series. This series was met with the same excitement when the sale came (they sold out within the first hour), but the prices in the secondary markets tanked quickly, at least compared to Series 1.

For their next big thing, WAX promised not to disappoint by teaming up with iconic film and television actor William Shatner. You know him as Captain James T. Kirk, but everyone will soon know him as the first hollywood celebrity to have exclusive memorabilia immortalized into a blockchain.

Why is This One Different?

GPK cards are fairly straightforward. They chose an eighties classic that would appeal directly to the target audience for blockchain and crypto projects. Shatner cards on WAX will put a few new ideas into practice that are worth discussing, ideas like shards and redeeming (burning) NFTs for physical items.

Shards

The above image says most of it. Collect all 3 shards of an image, and then you will receive that card (which is that much rarer… because of the shards). The actual rarity of the card is determined once all shards are collected, so you can get even luckier! These are the different rarities available with Shatner cards:

Redemptions for Real Stuff

This is an exciting development, and it could go a couple of different ways. Here’s how it works. Owners of the rarest cards in the set, the golden ones, can actually redeem their NFTs for a real-life physical signed headshot from the man himself.

It’s difficult to say whether the value of the golden cards will be limited based on the value of the prize for which they can be redeemed. Perhaps the golden cards will change digital “hands” many many times before finally finding that special person who really would rather have the signed headshot of William Shatner. It will definitely be interesting, however it plays out.

This Thing is HYPED

This sale goes live at 10:00 am MST the morning of July 30th. They will sell out. Fast. A lot of people have heard of William Shatner. He has a lot of superfans, and he is an excellent herald to grab the attention of some more of the masses as we all move forward together in this developing space.

Series 1 of Topps GPK sold out in a matter of hours. GPK goes exotic sold out in less than one. What do you think will happen tomorrow morning when this sale goes live?

If you want to purchase: Be in the right place (https://shatnercards.io/) at the right time (10:00 am MST 7/29/20) and have the following ready:

  • A WAX Wallet — If you do not yet have a WAX wallet, visit https://all-access.wax.io/
  • A Credit Card for Payment — Cryptocurrencies will most likely not be accepted for this sale. Be prepared.
  • Quick Fingers — Even if you’re there and ready, you might not make it. A lot of people were disappointed with the last sale (transactions refused or refunded, other various problems), so try not to have any expectations of any kind.

As blockchain enthusiasts and collectors of the non-physical, it is our continuing mission to seek out new technologies and new ways to be free, creative and prosperous, to boldly go where no one has gone before!

It is pretty cool that these guys are jumping on the blockchain train.

Is there anything I can do to build up my wax account other than dumping a bunch of money into it.
Any freebies or earn aspects available?

I'm not really aware of anything on WAX that offers any kind of staking rewards, but they have some good email promotions.

I got one of the coveted golden *Fryin' Brian" GPK cards as a reward for just signing up for early access. So my best advice is sign up with your email before the sale and you may get lucky.:)

These guys really know blockchain. They've been doing the Worldwide Asset Exchange quietly for years. I think we can expect one innovative thing after another from WAX. I'm extremely excited about the upcoming KOGs (Keys to Other Games). https://wax.kogs.gg/ (they're doing an early access email giveaway too)

Sweet! All signed up :)
