If you are serious about drawing, I recommend that you try yourself in nature. Free yourself from closed forms, from objects. In nature, none of that exists, just a salad of light and shadow.
There is a technique that allows you to get good results drawing in nature. It is called Non Verbal Drawing
Look closely at the drawing, stick your nose to it and you will only see stripes with no apparent meaning. Now look at it from afar and everything suddenly makes sense. Magical, right?
This is the power of Non-verbal Drawing.
