This little lady has been us for 40 days which is a much longer period of time than we would normally keep a dog in our kennels. We normally don't take on these cases because it is for the most part, well beyond our budgetary capabilities but she almost certainly would have died without our help.
She was severely underweight, had horrible mange and open wounds on all over her body and was completely infested with fleas, ticks, and mange. To make matters worse she wasn't terribly receptive to being approached by humans, who she has built up a lifetime of distrust towards.
Although she was unresponsive to the love we tried to shower her with, this doesn't change the fact that we are still going to help as much as we can. It was necessary to muzzle her at times because she would try to bite anyone who would approach her, even if we attempted to buy her trust with food.
I don't think the pics really do her progress justice but she has improved immensely as far as her coat, her weight, and her overall temperament is concerned. She still is a bit apprehensive to allow people to touch her so we still keep her muzzled anytime we need to move her.
Henrik has been able on multiple occasions to get her into a medicated bath and this has helped with the recovery of her previous terrible skin condition that would have almost certainly taken her life. She is ready to be reintroduced to the area that we picked her up in and now has a number of injections that will help to prevent her skin infection from returning, at least for a time.
As sad as it sounds, the people of the community are very unlikely to help, feed, let alone touch a dog that is in the state that she was when she arrived at our facilities - hopefully with her new makeover the people living in the community will be a bit more responsive to her.
As always, we wish we could do more or even find a forever home for her, but this simply isn't possible at the moment. We have to stay focused on the long-term goals of improving the overall health of the community's stray animal population.

Quite amazing how dogs can recover fairly quickly. This was an extreme case and just feel sorry for animals in this condition. Imagine having that on your body and not having treatment as that must be a terrible way to die.
