Can you be disciplined if you are not a disciple?

in #philosophy4 years ago

How clearly do you see the future you want?
What parts of it are hard to visualize?
Avoid fantastical things like free energy, faster than light space travel, and unlimited lifespans or embrace it all?
Why is this the future you want and how do “you” fit into it? Do you have some position of importance, significance, or prestige in this future and if so is that actually important to you and is it what you actually want?
What things do you care most about and why?
What are you avoiding?
What do you fear?
What makes you uncomfortable?
(Speaking to myself) You are very undisciplined with regards to spiritual growth routines or ritual and it may primarily be because you are not a disciple. The path of discipleship is seen as a trick of sorts, a training wheels version of the true path which is as individual and unique as your DNA and, at the same time, just the same as every other path that coordinates around specific brands, symbols, mantras, stories, “laws”, rituals, and the like.

Let go.

There is no shame or guilt within the process. There is no time wasted or missed opportunity. There is simply following the path as awareness illuminates it. Mistakes and failures and dead ends are part of the journey. They can not be avoided because they are great teachers and necessary for stewarding greater responsibility.

And that is the spectrum of conflict: responsibility versus attachment. Be responsible for the things you know and detach from the outcome.

Whether you are sitting in a jungle somewhere deep in meditation, or just lying in your bed on a lazy Sunday morning, you have the opportunity to be present. To be. Aware, conscious, listening, and understanding the “downloads” that are available either through your subconscious or some more aetheric, mystical explanation like the vibrations of the absolute oneness throughout the universe, received through your brain.

Rich, poor, sad, happy, in fear or love, anxious or at peace, busy or bored... we all have this moment to take in a deep belly breath and acknowledge our process of being. This is available to us all. This may be the entire point of existence: to know ourselves.

Sort:

Beautifully put! In every single moment of life we are given a choice - variants, each of which holds a completely unique outcome and direction. Being fully present for at least most of the time is probably one of our modern societies hugest shortfalls now...

Sending tips with @tipU - how to guide.

You must read BioHistory by Dr Jim Penman.
It provides a very detailed answer to your question and others.

Stop striving Luke - just enjoy it.

I am enjoying. My posts may come across as striving, but that's just perception due to the limitations of language and my free-flowing thought-to-words. I have a wife, family, a managing director role in the non-profit @fioprotocol and plenty of responsibility. There are many expectations set on me, and I'm learning to let them flow like water towards what matters.

It seems to me that we are very disciplined, despite the lack of rituals we stay in constant attention and learning. It seems to be endless and never stopping. Deep thoughts and insights, much appreciated - @fenngen

All of those questions are very pertinent in my spiritual life right now. I do love the enquiry, and the deep intuitive listening for the answers...
