Balcony Garden: Cucumbers

in #photography4 years ago

I hate those holiday / nonworking days that turn out as the busiest ones, and today was precisely one of that kind. My youngest son and his wife are arriving in 45 days, and the house is still a total crowded and cluttered mess.

We are in some renovation/reconstruction/place rejuvenation process (maybe I mentioned it before), but we are doing (for now) all by ourselves, and that's slow. Slower than the slowest snails! Or at least, that's how I see it and feel about it.

And there is that "Balcony Garden" of mine like I didn't have where else to spend my time. Which time, you might ask, and you would be more than right to wonder about it?! Because the answer is that spare time, I actually didn't and still don't have.

Yeah, I'm just scribbling, lucking the time, idea, inspiration, strength to keep my eyes open and stay awake, and...

Therefore, for my today's post, I have only...

Cucumbers

From My Balcony Garden

The first two photos are taken about a month ago when they just showed up and started to grow.

Small Cucumbers just started to grow

First small Cucumbers

This third photo is taken today afternoon. The difference is quite noticeable, don't you think!? Still, I don't think they are ready for harvesting. I'll let them grow a bit more!

Almost fully grown Cucumber

What do you think, leave them or pick them?

Sort:

It looks good but I think it can grow a little bit more... but hey, I'm no expert so don't you trust me on that! 🤭

hahaha - I'm not an expert either. It's a first time for me to plant it. But, I would agree with you, or at lest that's what my guts are telling me, to leave them grow a bit more. 😉 🙂

Whoa! This cucumber at a glance look like the Japanese cucumber, unlike the common ones in Malaysia that looks like long watermelons because of its pattern.
Is the texture more dense?

Great that you are having your son and your daughter in law coming back to visit you, especially all the fiasco of Covid-19

hahaha - I don't know how the Japanese cucumber looks like. We have several different types that we can buy here, and I don't know if maybe some of them are Japanese.

This one is a domestic type that grows quite big (like a smaller zucchini), and we eat it mostly fresh in salads. When you cut it, inside it looks like this...

Cutted Cucumber
(I made a quick shot for you of the same one I bought, as mine are not ready to harvest, yet.)

The other domestic type that we have here are quite small and used to be prepared for winter stores. We call them pickles.

Regarding my youngest son and his wife arrival, I just hope all this mess around Covid-19 would settle down in the meantime. Last few days we had again some growth in the number of infected, so I just hope they are not going to close the borders or even lock us down again.

Apart from that, there is another possible issue as they arrive from Spain which is still listed as "dangerous" country, so I don't know if they might be forced to the so-called self-imposed isolation for 2 weeks upon their arrival.

In that case, this isolation would "eat up" almost whole the time of their stay. Although, I wouldn't have anything against if they would be locked in house with me for 2 weeks. 😉
Yeah, I know, I'm a bit "selfish" mom! 😅
