I do not have many photos, and although I would like to give an introductory tutorial on how to take a good photo, I also do not think that I would have the capacity to speak objectively about photography, or rather, to teach objectively about photography. With this in mind, I can go easy and say that photography, like almost any expression of art, is more subjective than objective; so I can say one or another thing that I have learned over time, without the need to fall into the "rules" (very real, by the way, since despite the fact that all art is subjective, it always meets objective parameters that, although they do not guarantee a good photograph, they help to understand it and also serve as advice for it). Here then, I want to talk about the two things that matter most to me in a photograph:
No tengo muchas fotos, y aunque me gustaría dar un tutorial introductorio de cómo sacar una buena foto, tampoco creo que tendría la capacidad suficiente para hablar de forma objetiva de la fotografía, o más bien, para enseñar de forma objetiva acerca de la fotografía. Con esto en mente, puedo irme por lo fácil y decir que, la fotografía, como casi cualquier expresión de arte, es más subjetiva que objetiva; así que puedo decir una que otra cosa que he aprendido con el tiempo, sin la necesidad de caer en las “reglas” (muy reales, por cierto, ya que a pesar de que todo arte es subjetivo, siempre se encuentra con unos parámetros objetivos que, aunque no garantizan una buena fotografía, ayudan a la comprensión de la misma y sirven además como consejos para esta). Aquí entonces, quiero hablar de las dos cosas que más me importan en una fotografía:
-The vibe: what is the vibe? We already started with the ambiguous, since a “vibe” is not a concept that most people are used to. Understanding what you want to convey in a photo is difficult, because although some people believe that a photo “cuts time” and tells a story, what story are you telling if you don't give a bit of context before showing the photo? Of course, sometimes the photos do not want to tell a story (or see the photographer does not want to tell a story), but wants to show a sensation, a feeling, wants to be able to transmit through an image tranquility, fear, suspense or any other emotion that need. When the photographer manages to do this, that's when they talk about a good photo.
-La vibra: ¿qué es la vibra? Ya empezamos con lo ambiguo, puesto que una “vibra” no es un concepto al que la mayoría de las personas estén acostumbrados. Entender que es lo que quieres transmitir en una foto es difícil, porque aunque algunas personas crean que una foto “corta el tiempo” y cuenta una historia, ¿qué historia estás contando si no das ni una pisca de contexto antes de mostrar la foto? Claro, algunas veces las fotos no quieren contar una historia (o véase el fotógrafo no quiere contar una historia), sino que quiere mostrar una sensación, un sentimiento, quiere poder transmitir mediante a una imagen tranquilidad, miedo, suspenso o cualquiera otra emoción que necesite. Cuando el fotógrafo logra hacer esto, es ahí cuando se habla de una buena foto.
-Backlighting: Backlighting is something I really love, but not everyone really likes it, and I can't blame them. The backlight is not for portraits, but for silhouettes, but the silhouettes and shadows are sometimes so incredible in the backlight that it is worth showing or trying even once in a while to take a good photo against the light, to, more than reflect a story or a feeling, reflect (worth the redundancy) a silhouette, a silhouette that possibly helps a lot to give harmony to a photo that, if treated with care, can be very well taken.
-El contraluz: el contraluz es algo que realmente me encanta, pero la verdad no a todo el mundo le gusta, y no puedo culparlos. El contraluz no es para retratos, sino para siluetas, pero las siluetas y las sombras a veces son tan increíbles en la contraluz que vale la pena mostrar o tratar aunque sea de vez en cuando sacar una buena foto a contraluz, para, más que reflejar una historia o un sentimiento, reflejar (valga la redundancia) una silueta, una silueta que posiblemente ayude mucho a dar armonía a una foto que si es tratada con cuidado, puede salir muy bien tomada.
