I hope it is not too late;) I am a newbie and found this contest by accident, but these shots just fit so well. There was not much editing necessary because the stone respectively the concrete in the background are greyscale anyway...

B&W Photo Contest - Colour Splash - Signs of Civilization
The common problem of civilization is pollution. In fact Baltic Sea counts as one of the most polluted seas in the world, mainly because it is pretty closed sea and a lot of industrially developed countries around.
Here is the sunset at the beach of Baltic Sea near Klaipeda, Lithuania. Some piece of red plastic thrown out to the beach and worked very well left red while overall black and white converted image
