Roadtrip North - Kukkolankoski

Over 1000 kilometres of driving in 20 hours and many stops in beautiful places along the way. Me and dad had a lovely day spend exploring the wonders of northern Finland.

Kukkolankoski (koski=rapid) was our first proper stop, after getting snacks and stopping to window shop excavators... We left from central Finland and drove all they up to Tornio and Tornio river, which runs along the border between Finland and Sweden. We came upon this little restaurant/bar/catering business in Kukkola that served creamy salmon soup. It was probably the best salmon soup I've had since they had not been skimping on either salmon or the cream, and I like to think the salmon came from the river, or somewhere close to it, but I forgot to ask.

After we had eaten and had a little chat with the owner, we hopped onto the car and went a bit further up the river where the rapids were the most powerful. This place seemed like the main tourist spot since there were a lot of people stopping by for a quick look, along with fisherman and families enjoying the sunny day. A spot like this along the fast free flowing river has long traditions of fishing whitefish and salmon.

From a photographic point of view, which I'm all about, the place is gorgeous but taking pictures when the sun is shining high and bright, is pretty bad. As the day went on and we kept visiting places up until almost midnight when we started out way back home, the pictures got better and better, you'll see in the coming posts, I have lots of material. To be continued.

the last pictures is my favorite! amazing shot

Thanks! Mine too and I wanted to include even though the picture really hasn’t much to do with the topic, but it was taken in that place.

glad you added this one to the collection. it stands out because of the artistic flair

The photo of the kid looks great.

Have a great day.

Thanks! I was trying to capture a nice shot of the boys (there were two) since they looked so much like it was the early 20th century in tht scenery.

Beautiful place! Nice pictures.

Thank you!

So this is where the kooks come from! :) I love it

What is kooks? 🤔

When I was a kid kooks were out of town surfers who couldn't surf very well. But also just a generic insult for anyone lol. It's also a pretty cool thing to be an outsider to the rest of the normies. Here's David Bowie singing about being a kook. :)

You learn something new every day!

Cracking spots looks like a grand day 💯🐒

Thanks! It was such a lovely day, perfect weather :)

Cracking we've actually had a summer here in the UK. Snuck out a few times💯🐒
