Well, it's been awhile again! WOrk is just barely starting to slwo down and I'll probably still get a couple hours' over time this week. Still... Monday's work day done, I headed out to commune with the giant furry ones.
"She said WHAAAAAT?!"
If you take the time to watch the herd for more than a minute, study it, you can estimate where they're likely to go next. Most visitors to the "Minnesota Safari" don't seem to have figured this out. By strategically pulling over in the general direction of the herd's ambling, I got them to cross right in front and behind my vehicle twice.
Mosie En Mass
Of course, some days they stay off in the distance. They were really active this evening, though. It might have had something to do with the swarm of flies. They had a little respite from those, thanks to the cowbirds!
Lady With an Audience
Those of you who dwell in large cities are probably very aware of traffic jams. This next one might come as a bit of a surprise! Instead of getting in front of the herd and waiting for them to come past, this lot "followed" them in their cars. They all crammed in, trying to see. I watched from a distance, having already had the herd pass me on both sides of my vehicle; no need to block others' view or create gridlock!
Rural Traffic Jam
The bison are fun, but the people watching isn't half bad, either. There are so many phone-tographers out there trying to get the perfect shot on their wide-angle screens. The herd was actually close enough for some decent phone-tos today. This young 'un could have reached out and touched her subject a couple of times.
Modern Photographer
For their part, the bison were being bison. If you spend time around them, they give you plenty of interesting poses...
