I had a really scenic drive from northern Arizona past the Grand Canyon and through southern Utah, on my first of a 2-day drive to Montana, on a route that was new to me, making the scenery all that much more enchanting. Before the amazing views looking towards the Grand Canyon (top photo), there were a whole lot of red rock cliffs and hills after departing from the higher terrain in the forests around the San Fransisco Peaks...
Then we crossed the Colorado River just north of the Grand Canyon, pretty breathtaking views despite not being the great wonder itself, before crossing into southern Utah.
Plenty hot, the weather was down here in these parts. Kanab, Utah:
I was really impressed with the scenery in southern Utah on this route, a big difference from the desert terrain south of Moab. Below were the type of views I was treated to for much of the remaining drive.
Then there was a rather abrupt and really nice change of scenery alternating between big Mountain Views and the lush green valleys tucked below them.
And then before I knew it, it was getting dark and I was in familiar territory in Richfield, Utah, and I found a nice place to camp a bit further north and closer to my ultimate destination, the campsite featuring some really amazing views of its own that I didn’t see until the nest morning, and I’ll save for another post. All in all, this was one of the most scenic drives I’ve been on in quite some time, especially for the relatively short distance travelled, with such a wide variety of scenery.
