Yesterday evening, I came across a park and discovered that there was a small garden there with beds of cultivated flowers.

During this summer season, the beds bloomed with bright yellow flowers known as "Black-Eyed Susans."

Black-Eyed-Susans are North American flowers which make any summer garden cheerful and vibrant. This particular garden paired them with lavender to provide a perfect contrasting color.

As with many flowers, Black-Eyed Susans were used by various Native American tribes, such as the Chippewa and Potawatmoi, for medicinal purposes. They could be used as remedy for snake bites, as well as helping ease colds. And the root sap was used for earaches. (I used to get earaches as a kid, I wonder if this remedy would have worked?)

The Black-Eyed Susan is the official state flower of Maryland and stands for encouragement.

Don't you feel a little more cheerful around these yellow beauties? 😁
