In Which We Say Goodbye to the Midway Ice Castles...For Now

Well, the Midway Ice Castles are done for the season. sigh I guess we'll have to wait until next year for more!

But it's amazing to me how long this tradition has lasted.

I took these photos ten years ago, one of the first years they ever had the Ice Castles up. They were in a slightly different location then; they later grew too large for the original space, and the attendance hadn't climbed to quite the distinction they currently enjoy.

They started with only the ones in Midway, Utah. Only later would they expand to other areas of the country, including Colorado, Wisconsin, and New Hampshire.

The lights in the evening weren't so colorful and elaborate, though still lovely.

There were no slides or thrones or fountains or rainbow tunnels.

But they've always been beautiful.
