Vase cocoon

in #photography2 years ago

Spiders make a lot of different structures out of their threads. It is not just nets, but also mats, tunnels, they wrap leaves to form a hiding place etc. But this is the first time I've seen a cocoon in shape of a vase.

And one more on lavender with a host.

I guess there will be plenty of new tiny spiders soon :o)

This is a truly amazing find! I've never seen a spider egg sac like this before, but it is spectacular. Looks like that's a wolf spider, too. Which is very interesting because they tend to carry their egg sacs on them and not make a fixed structure like this. Unless this wolf spider is sniffing around for an easy meal...

Looks like the egg sac of one of the garden spiders, Argiope sp. Regardless, that shape is absolutely amazing!

You are right. On third picture the egg sac looks like that of a wasp spider, but the "host" is a wolf spider (most likely spotted wolf spider). I jumped to conclusion that it is its cocoon, because it was walking around freely as if it owned the place.

Female wasp spider is twice as big as this cheeky little fella.

Dear @miosha, we need your help!

The Hivebuzz proposal already got important support from the community. However, it lost its funding a few days ago and only needs a few more HP to get funded again.

May we ask you to support it so our team can continue its work this year?
You can do it on Peakd, ecency,
