Der Opel Ascona A ist ein von November 1970 bis Juli 1975 gebautes Mittelklasse-Fahrzeug von Opel. Es war im Hersteller-Programm zwischen Kadett und Rekord positioniert und ersetzte den von August 1967 bis Juli 1970 gebauten Opel Olympia A. Der Wagen hat eine eigenständige Karosserie und ist mit Kadett- bzw. Rekord-Motoren bestückt.
Vom Ascona A wurden in fünf Jahren insgesamt ca. 690.000 Wagen gebaut[1]. Der Ascona A lief im Opel-Werk Bochum vom Band. Nachfolger wurde der millionenfach produzierte, sehr erfolgreiche Ascona B. Für das geradlinige, schnörkellose Design war der GM-Chefdesigner Charles „Chuck“ Jordan verantwortlich.
Der im September 1970 vorgestellte Opel Manta A ist die Coupé-Version des Ascona auf der gleichen Plattform.

The Opel Ascona A is a mid-range vehicle built by Opel from November 1970 to July 1975. It was positioned between the Kadett and Rekord in the manufacturer's program and replaced the Opel Olympia A built from August 1967 to July 1970. The car has an independent body and is equipped with Kadett and Rekord engines.
A total of approximately 690,000 cars were built from the Ascona A in five years [1]. The Ascona A rolled off the assembly line at the Opel plant in Bochum. The successor was the Ascona B, which was produced a million times and was very successful. GM head designer Charles “Chuck” Jordan was responsible for the straightforward, no-frills design.
The Opel Manta A launched in September 1970 is the coupe version of the Ascona on the same platform.
