Idea of North

Two Summers.jpg

Almost August
And I’m out downtown
Enjoying
The summer heat.

Here, in the north,
Shade trees
Join hands
Above the street,

Glass buildings
Reflect
Banks of clouds,

While fountains
Dance
For mid-week crowds.

The pandemic
Is not apparent

While the States
Play host
To a hundred thousand ghosts.

Best turn off the news—

Too many dead
Without excuse.

But here, I’m safe

Out on a sunny day
With errands to do…

Content
In the end
I’m coming home to you.
