There's Space for Everyone

IMG_6015.jpeg

I have found as I travel though this material world that we share that my journey is heightened and ameliorated bay first taking the time to inhabit the space within and between my thoughts. This isn't just metaphysical woo hoo. Meditation has been scientifically shown to steady the heartbeat, lower blood pressure, and promote a beneficial hormone balance. In other words, it is factually, as factual as anything can be, good for your heart and body and not just your mind.

The meditative mind finds calm and strength, durability and improved immunity function. We know this not based not on qualitative estimation, but because of quantitative measurements gathered from a science practice inspired by learning and a drive to understand: the amassing of science fundamentals and not science-for-profit, statistically slanted sound bites, designed to sell you something.

We know the value of meditation from an exploration of wonder through nature and innovation in metrics gathering.

From 11 of 81, Poems from the Tao ...

the spokes of a wheel turn
allow the air to pass
we get movement

the earthen jar
maintains an open space
to be filled with nourishment

we build with stone, steel, and wood
it is the space within
that offers a home ...

Turns out nature is not bound by our atmosphere or magnetic reach; it's not bound by our sun's fusion driven reach. it's not limited to the spin of galactic arms. It'a not limited at all, at least not with possibility. So guess what. There is no end to exploration and wonder either... inward, outward, on the microscopic or macro-multiverse level.

Meditation shows us exploration is good for the soul and body. It keeps things moving and fills up all that everything with feeling and experience.

The question is what are we going to fill it with; who gets to fill it; and where are we to go, and who is navigating the starship, who is altering the landscape at home; who do you let drive upon and alter your mindscape.

Currently we have left it to a few who may or may not be particularly good at navigating inner workings, but have become rather masterful at steering through a stunted, slanted, and starvation-inducing economic system.

Kudos to them; seriously. There is admiration in my heart for some of what they have accomplished. But they've partnered with a media and corporate system that when believed maintains our existence rather, slanted and stunted, including our exploration of science and the universe.

Russell Brand covers this rather insightfully and wickedly humorously.

Below you will find my response.

The truth is we don't have to choose between nurturing each other and exploring space. They are not mutually exclusive endeavours. By nurturing and caring for each other with better living conditions, education, and effective and truthful healthcare, the minds capable of driving us forward in science and engineering would increase in the thousands, with each community brought out of poverty and into affluence.

I study science as a hobby and do not receive one penny from my studies. I would do it for a modest income in a fair and more truthful world. I would have something offer too. I am a pretty functional critical thinker. I could have chosen the field of science as a career but instead I chose the humanities, arts, and education. I am glad I did because there is no way I would have thrived in what have become greed and profit driven industries.

The iconoclast ... in other words the truth-teller in me ... would have self-destructed year-one in a corporation or a corporate captured university.

Let's be clear; our foe here is not even capitalism. Capitalism is defined by a free and open market, an ethical market, one based on meritocracy. Yes, inequalities arise in capitalism. So I am not all rah-rah there but I do recognize that healthy competition in balance can be beneficial.

But in corporatism, it isn't even about merit, gained from an albeit unequal world, rising to the top and serving us all through their excellence; it is the willingness of individuals multiplied to the corporate level to cheat, lie, and yes ... kill ... for profit and infantile... as you point out ... lust for glory and fame.

I am not interested in glory or fame. I am incredibly grateful that Brand is willing to take the heat of being famous, and I can hang out with you folks. I enjoy freedom and don't want millions competing for a piece of me. Only to have the media come along and decide I have become to colossal for my culottes; get out the cyber scissors, and attempt to cut me down a size. Yeah ... I see you twitter.

I do wish all you good folks would stop falling for this mean girl tactic. Social media wants to limit bullying ... they should start with themselves.

Cancelling a person, even a famous person, is quintessential bullying. And if you are buying into this largely bot-driven endeavour, stop it, and ask yourself the real reason that reactionary absolutism is being emphasized over nuanced discussion and consensus. Nothing creates radicalism like shunning and excluding individuals.

Ask yourself why they have managed to put feminism at odds with trans-rights ... they are NOT at odds. Seriously ... think about it. You don't have to choose; one fits nicely into the other. Although at times there may be some value conflicts, we love each, and we can work it out.

So few of us will ever compete in world class sports, or go to space by the by, but we ALL have to use the bathroom, and we ALL deserve to feel safe and comfortable in our skin. These are the things matter. Everything else can be worked out, if remember we are ALL human and us all being exactly the same would be the end of us.

We depend on diversity for survival.

So stop caring so much about fitting in and not being cancelled, it is a losing battle. People will eventually disagree with you and anyone ... ANYONE ... can be discredited by those interested in discrediting them.

Seriously, stop falling for media mean girl manipulations.

From 13 of 81, Poems from the Tao ...

Esteem is a ladder
with neither top nor bottom
it depends on the shaky regard of others
to keep the climber from falling

What has come to interest me is the creation of a beautiful world filled with happy people, some of whom will become scientists and engineers, space explorers; some who will be gardeners and shepherds, some pontificators and some simply sunbathers, but everyone knowing they have a place and are cared for by the whole.

No matter where you explore, how you explore, or who you explore with. Space is empty, savage, and cold if you don't fill it with love.

11 of 81 continued ...

a closed mind
offers no space
offers no movement
offers no nourishment

allows but a crawl space for a home

we mould the material
it is the space we use
