My poker challenge Day 1

Today I will start a series where I will narrate my new journey in the world of online póker.

First some background:

I started playing Texas Holdem online about six years ago. At first I used the Facebook Zinga application and I got hooked. I acumulated about 1 million fake dollars playing against amateurs such as myself.

After some time I decided to try my luck and signed up at Pokerstars and deposited $10 US. Those who have some knowledge about the world of online póker will tell you that ten dollars won't get you anywhere...the variance in the game will inevitably make you loose your bankroll.

Long story short I made several deposits over the course of 2 years and ended up loosing about 500 dollars. So I decided to take things a little bit more seriously. I made a $100 deposit, I studied alot & tryed to adhere to some semblance of bankroll management.

My efforts payed off..I turned my 100 into 830 in 1 year. I went from playing at NL2 to NL10 and took a shot at NL25 where I broke even after 1 month. I did not feel comfortable playing at that stake and decided to keep playing at NL10 until my bankroll was big enough to play at the next level without fear of loosing too much.

Then something happened...I couldn't win anymore. My bankroll went down to 250. I was loosing my cool, I was frustrated and kept playing even do I was down several buyins in almost every session. This went on for months.

I would win some of it back grinding for weeks but then I would loose it all again in one or two sessions. I played every day 1 or 2 hours sometimes for 3 or 4 hours each time.

One thing worth mentioning is that I have not made another deposit in four years. That I can be proud of...I think.

It wasn't fun anymore so back in February I decided that it was time to stop...and I did. Now I feel I can start again but I will only do it if I can enjoy the game regardless of how each sesión turns out.

This is the plan:

  • Starting bankroll 50 buyins NL5
  • Move to NL in 3 months
  • If my bankroll goes below 30 buyins I will go to the lower limit.
  • Take 4 buyin shot at the next limit if I reach 34 buyins.
  • Stop loss 2 buyins.
  • If I loose 1 stack in 1 hand the session ends (for pshycological reasons).
  • If I win 1 stack in 1 hand the session ends (same as above)

Today I played a 297 hand session and I had a good outcome:

I won 1 stack in one of the hands so I called it a day.
