Staffordshire Police Caught Bullying Polite Teenager For Crossing The Road!

in #police4 years ago

Thankfully the young man was smart enough to get this interaction on camera.

For those of you who don't know, jay walking isn't even a crime in the UK. You can cross where you like and pedestrians literally have the right of way.

These 2 cops obviously had nothing better to do and stop this young lad to bully him with threats and made up laws.

They go from telling him his attitude is the problem to swearing at him which is a section 5 public order offence, by swearing at or near the child.

At 4:44 into the video you can clearly hear the police driver saying, "Next to me was a great big Range Rover. I couldn't see you waiting there because of where I was in the drivers seat. The first time I saw you was when you were in the middle of the road." This is a clear admission of failing to take note of pedestrians. Not being aware of your own blind spots. Not making adequate observations before moving off. These are best described as 'Driving Without Due Care and Attention', which is also an offence!

They flip between saying they are stopping him to give him some road safety advice to threatening that if a car hit him, then it would be his fault and he would be liable, which is simply not true.

Did these awful police just have a case of road rage? Maybe they were just bored? How far would they have taken this if the boy wasn't smart enough to film this and to ask for their details. Something that actually made the police more angry and more commanding with him. It's absolutely his right to ask for their badge numbers, and instead of giving him a chance to record them they say that their numbers are on show, then immediately start threatening him and telling him that he has no right to tell the police how to do their job.

In this case there was no immediate threat, nobody was in any danger, the police officer should have let his details be taken down without pressure and certainly without the threats!

It's a massive shame to see this as the police in the UK have a lot of training compared wit our countries. In the USA you can become a police officer in half a year or less with very low education requirements. In the UK if you already have a university degree then your training will be 2 years. There are some programs for people without a degree to apply to the police they are around 3 years and you are expected to get your degree while training for the police.

One problem we do have despite the training they should have is that over the last 10 years, our current government has cut over 20,000 experienced police officers from the force. They are now being slowly being replaced by new recruits with rushed training. Hence the scope for something like this happening where the police are not only creating their own problem but they are lying about the law, contradicting themselves, and bullying a child.

I thought the young lad handled it pretty well. It's not fun to have adults behave like this, less so when they are in a uniform that should be respected.

Thankfully nobody was hurt I just think it's a slippery slope when police are making things up to enforce them. I respect the hard working police out there who do care about their communities, not this type of police.
