Shadow and Bone - a Russian Empire story (without the name, and with superpowers)

This is a fantasy story inspired by the Rasputin and the Czarist Russia, where magical people called Grisha do stuff and fight using magic and ninja skills. Actually there are three books in this Grisha trilogy (Shadow and Bone, Siege and Storm, Ruin and Rising). The author herself is Hebrew Ashkenazi, as they are Jews whom emigrated on what it is today Ukraine, Lituania, Latvia and Belarus. This is a different kind of movie, heavily inspired from the Eastern European mithology, and it is quite refreshing to see something so different after watching one too many Marvel clones, ''with a twist''. We got witches, witch-hunters, West and East divide, but more than that, we got powerful men and beautiful women, as you can find only in the Eastern Europe, which are completely different than the Hollywood models. Yes, I got it, I grow up in Romania, and I use to read Taras Bulba and other similar books writen by great Russian writers. So, somehow, watching this i feel like i sneak peak into my childhood fairytales.

Sure, they got the gay and black people cliche, looking like mandatory requests from the social environment, but over-all i give them an 8 out of 10.
