I present to you the resplendent stadiums that are set to host next year's football(or soccer) World Cup. In case you may not know, the tournament will hold from 21st November through to 18th December 2022 in the oil rich country of Qatar. Looking at the stadiums you can understand the power of oil revenue. Ordinarily one should be "salivating" to be in such grounds to soak in their ambience.

On the other hand people are not that impressed. Someone wrote bluntly somewhere concerning these pictures– “If you look closely, you can see the blood smeared on the wall from all the workers they've had to kill to get these built in time. Shocking decision to give it to them.”

Now you can imagine that such people are looking at matters more holistically, should I say they are mindful of the kind of precedence that will be advertised by allowing this nation to host this competition.

Indeed at least 6,750 workers(all immigrants) died during the construction of these stadiums due to outrageously poor safety practices all in order to meet up with the FIFA deadline. Also the working conditions and salaries were slave-like.
A narrative was spun by then FIFA and UEFA Presidents,Sepp Blatter and respectively, saying that the World Cup needs to move to less football-popular countries as a means of promoting the game, hence Qatar was chosen. But today that narrative seems a very dubious one, especially as both Presidents have been outsted now with issues relating to financial fraud in what can be called the Qatar hosting imbroglio.

People are still outraged that FIFA still insists on hosting the World Cup in stadiums should never have cost that much loss of lives coupled with the human right infringements of slavish working conditions therein. Some insist that players should begin protesting emphatically right away.

It is such a messy affair really that seeks to promote the lust for money over and above sound character virtues football ought to be upholding, especially when it has to do with the biggest competition in football– the World Cup.

Talking about it, the World Cup is the most prestigious footballing association tournament in the world as well as the most widely viewed and followed sporting event in the world, even exceeding the Olympic games.
Since the inaugural tournament in 1930,17 countries have hosted the World Cup— Brazil, France, Italy, Germany, and Mexico have each hosted twice, while Uruguay, Switzerland, Sweden, Chile, England, Argentina, Spain, the United States, Japan and South Korea (jointly), South Africa, and Russia have each hosted once.

Well on Qatar,we await.

Beautiful looking stadiums a lot must have been put into making this a reality. Amazing how they had to come up with it such short time.

Quite some revelations with that I just read. You mean people really died while building this stadiums? That's really sad one if the football association could go on with this considering the lives lost.

This is not a good omen or sign of host country and FIFA can go on with this in the name of hosting a world cup. This puts a huge dent on this no matter how good it looks.

The lust of money is really a terrible thing has it rids us humans of certain moral characters. No care for human lives. Don't know if I will be excited watching the tournament after reading this

Thanks a lot for the feedback. Indeed the death toll and all in the post are factual.
Sepp Blatter and Michel Platini(sorry mistakingly omitted in the post) supervised this fetish for money. They were both convicted and found guilty. What is puzzling people is that if these actors have been proven guilty why go ahead with the World Cup in that country?
It's not as if we can't get countries who will be prepared right away to replace them. At least I know England is ready at the snap of the fingers and they were even part of this World Cup bid.

Just like you,I begin to feel less excited about this coming World Cup because we must dethrone this kind of lustful greed(look at the death toll it caused) and enthrone worthy values of respect, selflessness, fair play,Godliness, love that football and sports generally should preach.
Well we await.

Thanks

My pleasure. The greed wouldn't let the federation do what seems right as long as the money keeps coming. The country Qatar seems to have lot of that the reason they wouldn't change their minds. Surprising how no one is protesting about this.

Indeed They are lot of countries that have the resources to hold tournament like this but I said it brings it to what they particularly intend to benefit from the oil money country.

Yeah certain virtues ought to be preached with sports. I can only imagine how things will be henceforth will people seem to be getting blind to this things that should not be tolerated

And when I read this your message over a year later(because I don't think I read it then,as I didn't have the finance needed to take care of my device, for posting things here), it indeed makes a whole lot of sense.

Hi there, hope you have been well?
I consider this discourse I had with you a rich one. Well people are protesting now as the competition draws close, but the competition seems sure to hold. At least I like it that people are making some noise about all these corrupt practices.

Cheers and thanks man.

I can't wait for this world cup, the greatest trophy of all time, am anticipating
