Malaysia is blessed without any Natural Disaster but one thing that we have to face daily is the rain and I mean abundant and abundant rain. It is so common that if you read daily news here, it will be only about cars stuck in floodwater, or DBKL (KL Municipal Council) saving persons stuck inside cars and especially now we are in the midst of two monsoon winds seasons, the Southwest Monsoon from late May to September, and the Northeast Monsoon from October to March.
Between mid-October and the end of March, the monsoon season is at the eastern side of the Malaysian peninsular. The weather usually is very rough with daily rain that can sometimes rain continuously for days in these months. But for me, I loved sleeping at night with the sounds of rain and thunder. I will sleep tight and sound.
Tourists are not encouraged to visit during this monsoon season. Aside from the danger of being trapped in flash floods, some resorts that operate in islands like Tioman Island, Redang Island and Perhentian island will be closed during this season. So if you are planning to visit Malaysia and if you love island activities, please plan your visit carefully.
Many sites offer a weather forecast for Malaysia but sometimes they are often not that reliable. Of course, we have rain every day but not floods everyday. So most important if you are in Malaysia is to observe whether the rain is heavy and continuous. If it is heavy and continuous, only then you need to be alarmed otherwise, just enjoy the cool weather during the rainy season as Malaysia can sometimes be too hot for those not used to tropical weather.
