The World Will End....

This may seem a strange title for this post, however, it's the words of Mother Shipton which said that the world would end the next time the bridge collapses.

One of my favourite none seaside places is Knaresborough, the home to Mother Shipton's cave.

Mother Shipton was a psychic that was born in Knaresborough way back in the 1400's. To read more about Mother Shipton and her propercies, click here to read the wikipedia page

Knaresborough it's self is a wonderful little town, parking is pretty cheap too, and only around 4 miles from Harrogate. After lockdown, I'm wanting to go back there and get the train through to Harrogate which you go over the viaduct in the picture.
There's also a castle here, which is still owned by the Queen, which is opened to the public certain times of year.

Here's a snippet from the wikipedia page (link above):

Sights in the town include the remains of Knaresborough Castle, the Courthouse Museum in the castle grounds, Mother Shipton's Cave, the House in the Rock, St Robert's Cave (dating from the Middle Ages), and the railway viaduct over the River Nidd.

The House in the Rock, also known as Fort Montague, is a local Knaresborough curiosity. In the early 19th century, a strange child appeared in the Hill family. This child had abnormal very blonde woolly hair resembling the fleece of a sheep and was known as the Woolly-Headed Boy of Fort Montague. He conducted visitors around the house and was a great curiosity himself.

The Chapel of Our Lady of the Crag on Abbey Road is a Grade I listed shrine dedicated to the Virgin Mary. It was built in 1408 by John the Mason after his son, who was presumed dead in a rockfall in a local quarry, was found alive, with the son's escape having been attributed to the mason's frequent prayers to Mary.

Knaresborough is the site of Ye Oldest Chymist Shoppe in England, opened in 1720.

The principal areas of public open space are the Knaresborough Castle grounds, Horseshoe Field, the King George V Playing Field and Jacob Smith Park, a 30 acres (12 ha) parkland on the edge of the town, bequeathed to Knaresborough by Miss Winifred Jacob Smith in 2003. Wildlife is protected in the former flooded quarry, Hay-a-Park Gravel Pit.

Conyngham Hall is close to the town centre. Until the 1980s there was a small zoo in the grounds.

Near to the castle are Bebra Gardens, formerly the Moat Gardens, renamed after Knaresborough's twin town in Germany.

The Commercial (formerly Borough Bailiff) public house, owned by the Samuel Smith Brewery, is the oldest pub in Knaresborough

Family time. I love this picture, it's the actions of the children that make it, as the little girl looks into the water, then the other kids on the river bank dangling their feet in to the water, a great picture of the past, as we can't do anything like this at the moment due to lockdown. I hope we can come to some normality again soon.

This was a naughty picture, this part is generally closed off to the public at night, however, one of the gates had been left open, so I managed to get this shot. Which I rather like.
I do like a bit of night photography.

Just managed to get the light trail of a train heading over the viaduct towards Harrogate.

I love the reflections on this one. I call it the worlds end bridge, as the pub to the right of this bridge is called The Worlds End.
