A week ago @qurator launched a small contest open to the entire HIVE community. As we mentioned in the title of this publication, the purpose of this was to design the new cover image of the Daily Qurator for HIVE.
In fact, we did not win, but it was a fun challenge for sure.
Hace una semana @qurator lanzó un pequeño concurso abierto a toda la comunidad de HIVE. Como mencionamos en el título de esta publicación, el fin de este era diseñar la nueva imagen de portada del Daily Qurator para HIVE.
De hecho, no ganamos, pero si que fue un desafío divertido.

This previous link is the original @qurator post and these are the guidelines to follow copied textually from the original post and translated:
- Must be a .psd file (Photoshop)
- Pixel range of at least 1400 x 960
- Area for the current date
- Area for the issue number
- Area for 5 names of the featured members
- Area to include a cover feature image
- Include the Qurator logo
We found it quite free and decided not to waste too much time to start designing by trying something new and that we appreciate would be ideal.

BACKGROUND & POLAROID
The mentioned background with little color correction.
El fondo mencionado con una pequeña corrección de color.
As you can see, the 'polaroid' effect is just a white rectangle with the picture space cutted off to place behind what suppose to be the featured post image.
It's all about the layers game.
Como pueden ver, el efecto "polaroid" es sólo un rectángulo blanco con el espacio de la imagen cortado para colocarlo detrás de lo que se supone que es la imagen del post seleccionado.
Todo es sobre el juego de las capas.
POST IT
Again, the 'post it' is just a yellow square with some lights and shades on the right places for a realistic looking. We added the date and issue number in a hand written font alike.
De nuevo, el "poste" es sólo un cuadrado amarillo con algunas luces y sombras en los lugares correctos para un aspecto realista. Añadimos la fecha y el número de emisión en una fuente escrita a mano igual.
NOTEPAPER
We modified the notepaper image we got from Freepik at our needs to fit the 5 required spaces for the featured usernames of the week.
Modificamos la imagen del papel de la nota que obtuvimos de Freepik para ajustarla a los 5 espacios requeridos para los nombres de usuario de la semana.
@QURATOR PIN
The logo was a little tricky first, we were between changing the color to "Hive Red" but we thought it would be better if we did not change the color to red in order to follow original @qurator's brand color.
El logo fue un poco difícil al principio, estábamos entre cambiar el color a "Rojo Hive" pero pensamos que sería mejor no cambiar el color a rojo para seguir el color original de la marca @qurator.
TAPE & HEXAGONS
We placed some pieces of paper around to also show Hive's logo and @qurator's username... Of course we needed also some tape to stick the papers.
Colocamos algunos trozos de papel alrededor para mostrar también el logo de Hive y el nombre de usuario de @qurator... Por supuesto, también necesitábamos cinta adhesiva para pegar los papeles.

And here's a plain version without any username or referential image, the file was also made in a way that the layers are grouped by each element, the template layers are blocked, the only editable groups are marked with blue, and even inside the group there are blocked layers, just the specific editable ones unlocked which are, usernames, issue and date, and of course the principal image which is actually a 'smart object' which can be changed in a parallel editable file which helps keep always the same positioning and size.
Y aquí hay una versión simple sin ningún nombre de usuario o imagen referencial, el archivo también se hizo de manera que las capas se agrupan por cada elemento, las capas de la plantilla están bloqueadas, los únicos grupos editables están marcados con azul, e incluso dentro del grupo hay capas bloqueadas, sólo las específicas editables desbloqueadas que son, los nombres de usuario, el número y la fecha, y por supuesto la imagen principal que es en realidad un "objeto inteligente" que se puede cambiar en un archivo editable paralelo que ayuda a mantener siempre la misma posición y tamaño.
