Sow the wind. Reap the whirlwind.

About a third of people who receive unemployment checks in Israel don’t want to work again, the government data says. Many of them are happy to continue living off benefits even as the economy is reopening.

Are the Palestinians of the occupied West Bank getting unemployment benefits? Are the inhabitants of Gaza getting benefits? Of course not. In the West Bank, increasingly fragmented by "Jewish Settlements” inhabited by militant Zionist haters of Arabs tolerated by the occupying IDF and cut to pieces by “Jews Only” highways, the Arab Palestinians of the West Bank are getting daily threats and harassment from these “settlers” and the ever present menace of the advancing bulldozers as Bibi Netanyahu and his American friends steal their land for “development”. And in Gaza they are getting starvation, blockade, periodic bombing, sniping if they approach the razor wire too closely.

Patient reader, you can’t really be shocked by what I said, surely. The UN Human Rights Watch said pretty much exactly the same thing as I did. And the Israeli government “rejected” it. They can’t deny it any more than gravity or sunlight or any other plain reality can be denied so they “reject” it. In Tel Aviv and Washington DC – the the White House, Congress and the US Supreme Court – “rejecting” undeniable realities has become the fashion. Who else “rejects” reality? The inmates of an insane ward. Anybody who thinks an entire country can’t go insane needs to brush up on their 20th century history.

And who are these “young people” and “low income earners” behind the wall in Israel proper? A few years ago the people on the street in Tel Aviv one evening were interviewed by a reporter with a microphone and one cameraman. Most of these people were pretty young, teens and twenty/thirty somethings. He asked them whether they thought the Arabs should be killed. Most of them said yes. Shocking to outsiders as this is – I hope – it’s understandable. These people have grown up in an atmosphere conditioned by an endless permanent conflict between their state and a conquered, occupied and feebly resisting people just on the other side of high prison walls and razor wire. And they have lived their lives in a state run by political leaders who spout genocidal hatred with regularity. Some samples:

Eli Yishai, present Deputy Prime Minister: “We must blow Gaza back to the Middle Ages destroying all the infrastructure including roads and water”

Gilad Sharon, journalist for the Jerusalem Post: "There should be no electricity in Gaza, no gasoline or moving vehicles… we need to flatten entire neighbourhoods”

Michael Ben-Ari, Knesset momber: “There are no innocents in Gaza. Mow them down… kill the Gazans without thought or mercy”

Avi Dichter, present Minister of Home Front Defense: Gaza should be “wiped clean with bombs”

Israel Katz, present Minister of Transportation: Gaza should be "bombed so hard the population has to flee into Egypt”

All these fine and honourable gentlemen are getting the “benefit” of perpetual hate and oppression but they aren’t “low income” I’m sure.

But the young people who are “low income” and perpetually on “unemployment benefits”, are they filling their days with a sense of purpose? Do they take their political leaders and established journalists seriously? Are many of them drawn to participate in eruptions like the mayhem of last April 23?

On April 23 (RT reported)

"Dozens of arrests were made following rioting and clashes in downtown Jerusalem… which saw scores of Jewish marchers stream through Jerusalem, some taking part in menacing chants such as “Death to the Arabs” and “May your village burn down,” according to local news reports.”

And...

"Hundreds of young Jewish supremacists, led by far-right leader Benzi Gopstein — who is on [parol? The tweet is garbled] for incitement to violence, racism, and terror — now gathered near Jerusalem's Old City. Journalists on the ground reporting chants of "death to Arabs.”

And…

"Happening now in Jerusalem: Jewish extremist settlers heading toward Bab El Amoud according... to carry out attacks against Palestinians."

The Bible honoured by Christians and Jews alike has a warning for the leaders and war profiteers of Tel Aviv and Washington:

"Sow the wind. Reap the whirlwind."
