Wonderful weather on our Saturday run CH3

in #running4 years ago

With the changing of the guard at the GM position, Saturday runs have been very fortunate as far as the weather has been concerned as of late.

We are in the rainy season here in Thailand so there is always a decent chance that we could get rained on, hard. One thing about the Hash in Chiang Mai is that we do not cancel for rain, ever. We power through and this makes it more fun. We do have to be more careful how we mark the trails though, since if a trail that is marked with powder, torrential rain could be disastrous as far as navigation is concerned.

While the forecast did call for rain we got lucky and ended up with reasonably cool weather and mostly clear skies. It also didn't rain a drop which was very lucky considering that it has been raining hard enough in the past week to cause minor flooding in certain areas.

Thankfully our co-hares "Bushy Tail and Just Coming" laid the trail in a higher elevation area (for the most part) in order to prevent any sort of washout or stream crossings (which we all claim to love but come on, no one enjoys running with squishy socks!)

You can tell by the above photo that all of us are world-class elite athletes and this is why we are able to tackle this more than 7km trail on the regular. All jokes aside, a lot of people don't come to these things because they believe it will be "too physically taxing" and to that I gotta say... look at this picture man! Superman is pushing 75 years of age and his belly greets you before his hand does. If he can do it, you better be able to do it.

This section here showcases how some of the trails we end up on aren't actually trails at all but that is part of the fun. The people who lay these tracks try to keep you guessing and seriously, this one kept us guessing for a long time while we searched for the "on on."

I managed to get a picture of the "ON IN" today, which some people refer to as the "onion". The importance of the On In is global and there is a very important and also rather useless "rule" associated with it. The On In indicates that you are nearly finished with the run and that there will be no more checks before the end of the trail. It also indicates that you are not allowed to pass anyone on trail without asking permission. They can be a jerk and deny you permission as well.

Mostly this situation is just a way to get people in trouble or to trap those who are unaware of the rule. The punishment is more of a reward depending on how you look at it.

Here we are back at the circle doling out punishments to the people who finished with Superman deciding what it is that they all did wrong, or what they might have done that was a bit too correct as well. It doesn't really matter what you do, you are going to get punished and that is part of the fun.

We didn't even come close to running out of beer this week, which is a good thing that we learned from last week because when you run out of beer that is basically the worst thing that can possibly happen in a Hash and will result in multiple weeks of punishment for whoever happens to be the "beer monster" at the time.

Despite the fact that more than 50% of our crew is locked out of the country at the moment, we still have enough numbers to keep the streak alive and next week we have runs planned for Monday, Thursday, and Saturday. More details are available HERE

See you next week!

Well any time outdoor activity is uninterrupted by rain / bad weather that is a good day, right? I was recently introduced to some hash members in my local community and will be going on a run with them one of these days. Our local chapter doesn't seem to be as active as yours but I am looking forward to it and am actually a little nervous!

looks like a lot of fun. I'm guessing the slower pace has to do with the super world-class athletes taking it easy so they don't show off too much?
